I liked it, but i need to see it again just to digest everything that went on. It surprised me alot too, which, personally i think was a good thing. Honestly, there's no pleasing some people - i know that now. I disagree, i liked John Hurt alot, and Ray Winstone was nothing less than interesting. I kinda felt sorry for Spalko in the end too. When the heroes escape and we see the
Spoiler:- i thought it was magical. I was so surprised to see this, and i honestly did feel rewarded by it. The chemistry and banter between Indy, Mutt and Marion was superb, and i think action out did everything we saw in the original 3. I'd say overall it was better than Temple of Doom, but fell short of Raiders of the Lost Ark and The Last Crusade. Like i said though, i really need to see this all again and properly digest every element. There is great dialogue in there, but it was all so much i couldnt take down every detail. Theatre screens (for me) are too overwhelming, so i need to sit down and watch this when it comes out on DVD in a more quiet environment i guess 😛
land transorm, and the ship take off
8/10 - for sheer entertainment. Alot of people forget to have fun at the Cinema - this is what it's for, to escape for a couple of hours! 😉
I'm still remembering certain bits that come to me every minute or so.
My favourite parts -
Spoiler:
The Waterfall scene, where Oxley predicts that they would fall 'three times' because of his precognition (one of the powers he inherited from the Skull) and they survive 3 waterfalls in a row. Far-fetched? i've seen worse. This was thrilling to watch! The fight in Arnie's diner, very fifties - and i'd like to mention that everything from the fifties in this film was perfect - right down to the hair, the clothes, music, cars (a nod to American Graffiti) and a great opener to the film. The Marcus Brody statue was quite a funny moment, it even made Mutt chuckle but the look on Indy's face was quite the opposite - as it should be. The motorbike scenes were beautiful to watch (almost like TLC through Europe/chase) When Indy and Mutt arrive in Peru it looked like a classic Indy locale, the whole place was very authentic (i like to see streets filled with all kinds of people - like Cairo in Raiders'😉 and the wedding was appropiate i think - he had to settle down at some point, right? the part where Indy grabs the fedora off Mutt was good, i was pleased that he did that. Overall, the chemistry between all the main players was refreshing to see, the stuntwork/action and body blows were classic Indy. And as for Harrison Ford? where have you been since Fugitive!? - he was Indiana Jones again, atlast!
I think my only big complaint with the film now that I have time to think about it, is pretty much why did the jungle chase have to use so much green screen? I mean look at how awesome the motorcycle chase was, and of course that was the shortest action scene in the whole movie...
and this is coming from a 17 year old
I just saw it. And I have some mixed feelings about it.
Ford is excellent, superb even. Most of the other parts except for Mutt are quite small from a character pov. I kinda miss the romance. And some of the action is quite farfetched *cough* monkey scene *scough*. The CGi is almost like watching a Disney film (gophers, ants)... so I dunno... I looked like Jones, it felt like Jones but I kinda missed the grit and romance... which is also Jones, but rather absent here.

Oh come on mate! Temple of Doom was, a well used example I know, an off keel adventure that never struck a blanace between broad comedy and a darker theme. If anything is infantile and shallow, it was Temple of Doom, but even that's a criticism I wouldn't duely give it.
"Off keel" adventure...?
It was just an adventure.
It was the Empire strikes back of the Indy films.
I had no problem enjoying the humour of Temple of Doom and its darkness. Maybe thats a sense of humour thing maybe....
For some maybe cgi gophers and monkeys constitute an equal level of comedy to watching Willie's revulsion at the Dinner scene in Temple of doom, or the spike chamber shenanigans, but not for me.
I find stuff funny as I find it, not because im being desperately ordered to by the film maker, especially when the humour is misplaced so badly as it is in the new movie.
FACT: Gophers being randomly instered into a crucial escape scene as if they were deliberately unleashed to eat the tension and serious credibilty away from the movie are never a good idea during your nuclear fridge surf scene.
Ok that scene wasnt so funny, true but "Wake up doctor Jones were sinking" and others Ive pointed out are classics.
And nothing at all in this movie rivals the understated humour demonstrated in spades juxaposed successfully with the dark attributes in TOD.
What is your definition of "off keel" in the context that you used it, by the way?
