Yeah... but the snake, again Ford's acting makes it work, is a tad.... well... odd... a forced joke. Pulling a lever in a icky niche is simpler and more credible.
i need a second viewing, i think we all do 😉 i missed so much, being caught up in the action - which is one of bad points of watching it on the big screen. They amp up the action with all the surround sound, maybe when i watch it on DVD, i'll feel more relaxed and it'll be easier to take in the story and the dialogue - which is great, but sadly drowned on my first viewing

yeah a bit, but then again they did the exact same joke in Star Wars.
the spike room scene I don't remember being funny....
I felt just as i did after Phantom Menace
Much as TPM said Star Wars but didnt feel like Star Wars.. KOTCS said Indy but it didnt feel like Indy.
Much like TPM the intro went on forever ,a lot of the humour was forced(altough there were a couple of good gags),most of the mugging was way over the top and what the **** was that stuff with the monkeys?
I wanted a second opinion of what id just witnessed from my girlfreind but that was a non starter as she fell asleep about 35 mins into it.
As someone just about old enough to have seen the originals at the cinema i felt very bored at times
something i never did with the 80s Indy flicks.
Maybe IM getting too old for this stuff.
I must admit on the plus side i found Cate Blanchett sexy in a dominatrix kind of way.. she was the best thing in it
Le Beof did another good job doing what he did with Transformers e.g making a mess of a film bearable.
"I have a bad feeling about this..."
too true
I cant believe Speilberg directed this mess and that Ford is happy with the end results.
Though I CAN believe Lucas knocked the story(?) up thinking it was the shit as opposed to what it was - shit.
For years ive wanted Lucas to bring back Fisher,Ford,Hammill and carry on where Return Of The Jedi left off but after the Prequels and now this i pray to god he doesnt.

I had the same feeling with being bored. There was a lot of exposition without any real clues after the intro... That felt very un-Indylike. Usually they have some clue, part of the exposition is revealed and later more follows. Here everything is cramped into a few very long scenes... talky scenes... Weird.

thats how i feel about this movie
i get a sinkning feeling even now as i hear the music coming from the tv in the next room playing an ad for the movie
the Indy theme always made the hairs stand on the back of my neck and give me goosepumps
now i hear it and feel a little depressed

Which was kind of the problem for me. A lot of things felt forced. I agree that Ford makes it work(most of the time). He in my eyes is the reason why I'm not completly dissapointed with the movie.
all the way since this movie was confirmed its always Lucas who sounds like the guy who nixed this from being a great pic
i bought the making of book and Lucas comes across again as a whiny want it all my own way arse
from his dissmissal of Darabonts screenplay to his insistance that an alien themed story be used instead of Ford and Spielbergs joint Nazis on the run idea it appears that Lucas was The Phantom Menace behind this pic all the time
i wonder what Ben Burrts expression was like after the private first screening this time round

Spoiler:
The Waterfall scene, where Oxley predicts that they would fall 'three times' because of his precognition (one of the powers he inherited from the Skull) and they survive 3 waterfalls in a row. Far-fetched? i've seen worse. This was thrilling to watch! The fight in Arnie's diner, very fifties - and i'd like to mention that everything from the fifties in this film was perfect - right down to the hair, the clothes, music, cars (a nod to American Graffiti) and a great opener to the film. The Marcus Brody statue was quite a funny moment, it even made Mutt chuckle but the look on Indy's face was quite the opposite - as it should be. The motorbike scenes were beautiful to watch (almost like TLC through Europe/chase) When Indy and Mutt arrive in Peru it looked like a classic Indy locale, the whole place was very authentic (i like to see streets filled with all kinds of people - like Cairo in Raiders'😉 and the wedding was appropiate i think - he had to settle down at some point, right? the part where Indy grabs the fedora off Mutt was good, i was pleased that he did that. Overall, the chemistry between all the main players was refreshing to see, the stuntwork/action and body blows were classic Indy. And as for Harrison Ford? where have you been since Fugitive!? - he was Indiana Jones again, atlast!
I absolutely agree with you on every point you made. I guess the only thing I really didn't like about the movie was the old bag of bones they dragged along for the second half of the movie, but that is small potatoes to even complain about. I thought it was a great movie. Also, did you notice they showed
Spoiler:
the Ark exposed in that broken box in the beginning?

i didnt say that
i thought i heard Burtt was involved in someway
his gutted expression after the first screening of TPM was priceless
i was refering to that
if he wasnt wearing the same look as the lights went up on Indy IV id be surprised
personally and who am i but after too many burnt fingers ill be keeping a distance from anything new Lucas presides over onscreen be it big or small in the future(Star Wars IV 3D excepted)
the guy should have popped his clogs or gone into retirement round about 1983
anyone know what happened to Rick McCallum?
