Indiana Jones IV

George Lucas Has Lost His Mind!!

George Lucas is a great director, writer, and visionary. We all know he has made some wonderful things that have influenced many people around the world. His ideas are incredible and extremely imaginative. He has created innovated techniques through his companies ILM, Lucas Film, and Lucas Arts. Lucas is Great!! We all know that.

But what the hell has happened to him recently?!
Why? WHY?! Did he put aliens in Indy 4??!!! Please someone explain to me why? There was so many different ways to tell that story, but he had to go put some stupid ass aliens in the movie. The Chrystal Skull could have been an ancient weapon of some sorts and that's why the Soviets were after it. Hey I should be the writer for the next Indy movie!

Apparently, there are talks for Indiana 5. If so, maybe they could clean up the mess of Indy 4 and save the franchise.

Your rant is nothing new.

People have been saying this about GL for 11 years now, since the Star Wars Special Editions came out. The critics get more & more shrill, while he just keeps making more money.
What can you do - boycott?

I thought the movie was doing well until certain things happened then the movie began to go down hill.

1. Cate Blanchet's character is psychic (that was not that bad, but annoying)
2. They find an magnetized alien body (I was hoping it was something else)
3. Indy survives a nuclear blast (come on!)
4. John Hurt's character (that was really annoying, he's all looney throughout the movie then in the end he's fine, please!)
5. Shia's character swinging in the trees (This is no longer an Indiana Jones movie, It became George of the Jungle)
6. The killer ants (Reminded me of the scarabs in The Mummy, real original Lucas)
7. The jeep that the heros are in survive 3 waterfalls! (by this time i want to walk out)
8. Then the aliens! (George Lucas should have put killer tomatoes instead, the way things were going anything was possible!)

I was really dissappointed with Indy 4. I did like how all the characters were portrayed. I thought that Harrison Ford did a great job for being older. I hope they do another movie to erase the stain Indy 4 left behind. GEORGE LUCAS stop adding to much crap to your stories! Simple and straight to the point is always better!

Hey jcvaldez,I like your views on movies, they're really good.check your pm box.you know how to do that right being new and all?

No.

The Indiana Jones series works upon a mixed basis of historical settings and pulp serials. During the fifties the Red Menace and 'Flying Saucers' were some of the more popular things floating around (as were greasers, etc), it's almost natural for those elements to pop up.

Yeah, I don't mind the aliens too much. I felt it was way to explicit though and the journey there was sloppy.

I agree with queeq... like, they used the ark, the grail... eternal life and radiation from the ark and stuff. So you already have to accept the unreal stuff in the movie, but they could either have hinted at aliens or at least have changed the ending sequence. MAke it mystical, not over the top hollywood.

Like... in Empire Strikes Back, the original didn't show the big snowbeast that attacked Luke when he was in the cave. Lucas on the Special Edition video agreed it looks more "art-y" but he picked to add it. He shouldn't have done that just like he shouldn't have done those things in Indy IV and go for his "art-y" look. Insinuate stuff; don't be too in the face and it was better

(and that's only about the aliens 😉)

The snow beast looked better in the Special Edition. At least it was someone in a suit, and not CG. Suspense still builds in that scene. Only reason it wasn't seen more the first time was time & money, and the puppet didn't work well.
If Steven Spielberg could have gotten any more shots of a working shark for Jaws, he would have put them in. The movie is a classic, but it was cut around a very malfunctioning mech shark.

and it pushed them to make a great movie... here they just throw in some CGI and that's it, no drive anymore

Which is prolly WHY it's a classic. He kinda (re)created the whole monstermovie concept: never show the monster. Ridley Scott nicely redid that in Alien.

Now we can actually make monsters look like not-men-in-suits we show it all and it looses its flavour. Tapping into the imagination of an audience is always than showing everything. It demonstrates you understand your audience when you're succesful in suggesting more than showing.

This is basically it in a nut shell

george lucas and steven spielberg have the same two problems about their film making.

As follows:

1:They are the ones who either write or approve the scripts

2. They are both allowed in the editing room

another rant about IJ4, whats the big deal with aliens in this movie? the existance of extra terrestrials are just about as mysterious as the existance of god anyway, so why does that change shit? it doesnt imo. It was a great idea.

They earned those rights though... And I wouldn't want it any other way. That way they are responsible.

Because the power of the ark was only revealed at the last instant... and than the US government put it in a storage facility, the Grail was also only found in the end and its powers were useless beyond the seal.

Here you got the alien's head with you the entire time; you see an entire room full of them and in the end, the saucer takes off... it's too much to handle. It's like they got a big red piece of cloth and are dangling it in front of you the entire time: it's too much in your face. If they really wanted to be like the old Indy's, they had to make it a search for the alien's head, not give it to indy immediately.
