Indiana Jones IV

The lines of Nazca in peru has an unknowk origin, so there are many talks about being a calendary or a map.

The inca culture, Mayan, egiptian, etc also has mystery and wonder, how the Incas for example make a wall with big stones that not a shet of paper could be put in between? so it also how the Mayan and Egiptian make piramides? all this Alien theories are theories that grow in the 50, the time when Indiana Jones 4 is set up, so i dont think that Lucas lost his mind.

The Only mistake of this theory is that el Dorado is supose to be in the jungle of peru, Ecuador and colombia and not in Mexico, Mayan language is not talk in South America, but sure Lucas put it to explain why Indy understand The signs.

Then is why i think we see Martians In this Indy Movie, wich is Ok

The whole aliens thing in Indy 4 is not consistent with the other films. Forget about all the religious points in Indy 1-3. The original films were more about human interaction, history, mytisism, it had a magical feel about it. Throwing in aliens into the story took all that away. Why do you think it was poorly critiqued. It was not a good ol' Indy story. Rather it followed the lame "let's throw in a bunch of crap into the movie because it will look cool" hollywood idea.

The aliens was not the only problem with this film as I mentioned before. But it was the biggest problem.

But going back to the religous tones in Indy 1-3. What's wrong with continuing that story line? All three movies had to do with a religion. The 1st was mainly Judism, the 2nd was Hindu, and the 3rd was Christian. Indy 4 could have easliy been about a Mayan religion (which it started off as) but then the whole alien nonsense screwed up the entire movie.

There could have been so many avenues the story could have taken but Lucas wanted aliens. The Chrystal Skull could have been a key to the City of Gold, or an ancient weapon, or the secret to immortal life, or the world's greatest secret, or something! Nooo! It needed freaking aliens....

Lucas had Star Wars and Indiana Jones as 2 separate genres. One was the Sci-fi, aliens, space ship genre. The other was the adventure, world traveling, nazi fighting genre. It showed that Lucas was able to be diverse in his storytelling. But when then aliens appeared in Indy 4, to me, it just made Lucas a one trick pony. ALL ALIENS ALL THE TIME!

Seriously, wouldn't it been nice to watch a Lucas movie that had nothing to do with aliens? Don't get me wrong, I like Star Wars as much as the next guy but come on!! Give us a break! What's next? Indiana Jones piloting the Millenium Falcon!... uh...er...wait a sec!

I agree if the Movie was base more about "El dorado", or a ancient Piece of sorcery that give power would have work better than Aliens, but my point is that the theory of Alien being the teachers of ancesters is not that out of place, is a well known theory/mith.

i have a friend from Peru, There are Ants in the Amazon that are big enough to paralize a person when they bite, deep in the Jungle.

exactly.well said, very good post. 👆 come on people, lay off of him.Just because you guys dont see the stupidity in Lucas and Spielbergs choices they made, doesnt mean he is on a rant. 🙄

I have a query.

Would you have enjoyed the 'Alien' idea more if they hadn't shown the corpse in the Russian Camp or the whole skeletons/merged creature ? Merely overtly implied it was Aliens, having the temple collapse in on itself at the end instead of flying off ?

Honestly? Yeah, yeah I would have enjoyed it more; I would rather have the alien part be implied, not directly shown.

yeah same here.the showing of them like they did just didnt sit well with me so I dont think I would have been bothered by it if they had done it that way so much.

We actually know quite a lot about the lines. They are ritual walking lines. The size and design are identical to the style of weaving with a single thread and from Nazca tombs we know the Nazcans we kinda big on weaving.

Honestly, no.
Because it feels like an easy way out the story. There was no real dymanics put into the purpose of the Chrystal skull. It was just easily explained away by using the aliens...

I know that there are some people who believe that aliens had something to with building of the pyramids in both egypt and the americas. But to me, it takes away what amazing feats the ancient people have created. Imagine a story told 100 years from now. The story is about the building of the Empire State Building. The story begins telling about how great the civilization that lived in that building was. The suspense builds up and the characters are finally able to learn the secret on how the building was made, and... it...was....ALIENS? blah! bummer! very unsatisfying. This may not be the best example to the whole alien notion in Indy 4. But it's how I feel about how the aliens affected the movie.

i just enjoyed the movie. It was a fun adventure film, and a great ride with good characters. If noone can enjoy it for that reason, then quite simply there is no pleasing anybody anymore. I used to look for all the flaws and smaller details when i went to the pictures - now i go there to escape for a couple of hours, which is precisley what i should be doing. Let's be honest, it wasnt 'bad' - all flaws aside.

On the Aliens issue, Im in the "shoulda shown less til the end" camp.

I definitely wouldn't have shown the trump card that early in the movie.

Mind you there was little else to sustain the movie at that point, and that was probably a factor.

Well said.

Exacatly you knew as soon as he survived a nuke he wasn't dying in this movie or coming into any other danger that could top that. Once you had the talk about Indy's involvement with Area 51 and saw the dead alien in the russian camp you knew what the ending was going to be pretty much.

Some gay ass encounters of the third kind bullshit

It was just a case of waiting for the inevitable and going through the motions trying to pretend your enjoying it.

They spent so much time developing a interesting story plot about a mysterious city know one can find and characters just to throw them away for some lame ass aliens appearing for two minutes and leaving a huge anti-climax. Like OX, the natives and the city of gold it's self were just thrown away completely without any regard.

Indy never was JUST a fun adventure movie. Indy redefined that genre. Not with Indy 4 though.

Indeed.
