Magneto most powerful on earth?!

Franklin Richards, Thanos, Hulk, Apocalypse (if he counts) are at least 4 mutants that would slap his ass.

Hulk isn't a mutant.
And unless he gets the jump on Magneto in an area where there is no metal, he isn't slapping Erik's ass.

And don't bring Thanos into the discussion. This is limited to Earth-based & raised characters.

I can name ten people on paper and he wouldn't be in the top ten on any list if there is no bias of course, and that list would sh** stomp.

no typically order

Scarlett Witch
Dr. Strange
Tailsman
Xman
Legion
Thor
Sersi
Dr. Doom
Molecule Man
Zuras
Hope Summers
Franklin Richards
Apocalypse classic

Maybe could also add

Morgan le Fay
Wiccan ("I wish Magneto was dead... I wish Magneto was dead... I wish... oh, he's like, dead."
Unleashed Ghost Rider
Graviton
Aquarian
Hudlin Panther (he would take down Magneto)
Out of control Sentry

...Warlock
Quasar
Binary
Some Captain Universes
High Evolutionary - all from earth though these guys tend to hang out in space more these days.

Professor X once said that Magneto was potentially more powerful than the Pheonix Force. Speaking purely theoretically Magneto could be one of the most powerful characters in Marvel not just on Marvel Earth. There is virtually no limit to what someone could do if they had complete control over Electromagnetism... but what Magneto could do and what he has done are two different things. While someone with his powers should be nearly omnipotent, theory and execution are two different things.

Still, dude could stop the earth's rotation on a whim and launch everything on the planet into space killing 99.9999% of the population, so yeah he is "arguably" one of the most powerful beings on Earth.

Yeah, there is a big difference between theory/potential and reality. There are a lot of characters who can control electromagnetic energy but as with Magneto that doesn't mean they can just do anything with it like they are god. Likewise a characters who can control flame or water can't just walk outside one day and decide to snuff out the sun or throw the oceans into space.

Magneto can't say drain the sun of all its energy or absorb all the EM on earth, he just doesn't have that level of power. Until he actually stops the earth rotation on a whim I doubt he can do that either. Surfer is a more powerful energy user and I'm not sure even he could do it. These powers have limits to them.

Interesting (seen some of that before) but in the end it is all just hypothetical talk, with Xavier pretty much saying neither he nor Magneto probably knows his limits (yet). Those limits may or may not be much beyond what we have already seen. And Xavier talks about how the PF is apparently represents a transcendental force of creation and that magnetism is one of the four foundation elements of the universe - well, maybe and yes, but then so what? It doesn't mean a lot beyond some idle speculation.

On a side note, what they said here about Wanda was actually demonstrated.

It's obvious that it's hypothetical.

I've made a case a few years ago for Magneto being an Omega level mutant in his respect thread, and also posted some scans from X-Men: The End where he was actually transformed into an energy being and created a wormhole across the galaxy.

Joseph could become one with the magnetosphere:

Yet, what is the difference between Magneto and Joseph?

"An EXACT duplicate except for one difference [...] you lacked Magneto's subconscious self-restrains [...]"

In short the only difference between Magneto and Joseph is the fact that Magneto subconsciously imposed limits upon himself while Joseph had not. [/B]

He has also been getting some rather impressive feats lately, like the bullet-feat from Uncanny X-Men (all while shielding himself from everything) or how he modified the energy matrix of Proteus. I reserve my judgement on his current standing for after the Doom fight, for which I do not have high hopes unfortunately (the writer had Magneto, in an out of character sequence, say that Doom is more powerful in an issue just prior to the confrontation), but we'll see.

Either way, his intelligence and battle experience does make him one of the most formidable opponents on current Marvel earth.

They say about everyone like characters being "virtually omnipotent"
