Really want to play Halo 3 soon.

That is not for all people, I for one actually almost hate the multiplayer, I absolutely love the campaign, I have been playing Halo 1 and 2's since the beginning and I still play it.

That's fine, if you enjoy it. It's like the Coldplay of games.
If you think it's amazing just because you have great times playing it, go for it, but claiming it to be more than it is would be where the line of stupidity gets crossed.
It's not some massively innovative, surpass-everything-before-it shooter. It's not actually packing anything that innovates the gameplay at all.

I would play the campaign than do online for about a week. I never actually saw what Halo truly had that made it "the greatest game of all time."
I always hated those people back when Halo 2 kept getting delayed and they would just say, "well it's the sequel to the greatest game of all time. They have to make it perfect."
Halo isn't the greatest game of all time. That title would go to a Mario game or a Zelda game.

Notice how it's just basically "NEW GUNS!".New weapons do not count as new gameplay. Unless, of course, they actually alter the game, which these will not.

the sub-items should change gameplay to a degree.. but I dont think it will change so much that it will feel more different than a halo 2.5

I must disagree, I never liked the Zelda games, and Mario was alright, a lot of fun, but definately not the best, it is impossible to determine the 'best game of all time.'

It definately will be more than a Halo 2.5, have you read anything other than what you have seen here about Halo 3?
Let's be honest, it will be the same with new guns and some shields.
It's not what people claim it is. It's little more than a generic FPS with graphics.

What about the utilities, like bubble shields, gravity lifts, etc? Wouldn't those alter gameplay?
No, they don't alter the way you play the game, just the way you kill stuff. It has nothing aside from personal weaponry like Goldeneye, PD and now Bioshock. Those games, especially Bioshock, have elements that alter how you can/have to play. Halo's AI can't even compete with it for one thing.
But this isn't necessarily about Halo Vs anything, it's me simply pointing out that the game gets criminally overrated cos kids are good at it, therefore they dislike anything they aren't as good at. Or like it less. It doesn't make Halo better, it means you enjoy it more.
People act like it's some innovative game cos you can have vehicles, but they don't alter the gameplay. "Oh wow, I would have had to walk that if I didn't drive.". That's not altering the gameplay, it's just providing additional weapons in the form of vehicles.
Red Faction is more innovative than Halo, and there are FPS much innovative than that.
