i cannot believe that western help has just started to arrive NOW in INDONESIA & SRI LANKA after 4 DAYS !!!

and lots more days until they reach remote areas !

2004 is ending CATASTROPHICALLY

Sad but i bet 30 years ago few would have cared about the disaster. Times are getting better but they are not good enough. Sad news from thailand. Final toll in thailand will hit 6800.

Thailand said it had 1,975 dead and a total of more than 300 were killed in Malaysia, Myanmar, Bangladesh, the Maldives, Somalia, Tanzania and Kenya.
Thai Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra said Thursday that he feared his nation's death toll will soar to nearly 7,000 dead.
"There are many people listed as missing and we think that 80 percent of them are feared dead. Twenty percent may have lost contact," he told reporters. Officials list 6,043 Thais and foreigners as missing in addition to the dead. By Thaksin's calculation, the dead would number about 6,800.
Thailand is looking worse then before.

Now CBC is krepping me out. !
http://www.cbc.ca/story/world/national/2004/12/29/wednesdaytsunami041229.html

By Thursday morning the death toll from the Dec. 26 tsunami stood at more than 81,000, with the Red Cross predicting it could pass 100,000 once the outlying islands of India are fully checked. A UN official said the toll in Indonesia alone could amount to 80,000.

i read some where that they can't find any dead animals??

has anyone else heard anything about that?

It happened in the wrong area for them politically. All critical situation control lies in the Middle East.

Its the great disaster of our time.
Canadian Government officials say Canada will give more money, but says we can't " just throw money at them, We need to know where to spend it"

I agree you can't pledge hundreds of millions if you don't know whats going on.
According to one official expect three times more after new years. Our PM talks about how much he cares about the third world. If he does, when he comes back Saturday he better raise our donation!!

So we are sending 80 million more but after new years. Well their reason makes sense and 120 million from us is quite a good donation. However the US should give way way more.

i heard that as well ; probably attributed to animals' sixth sense

i read that they can sense the earth more than us making their way from disaster. in that case animals would be smarter than us. On CNN an expert was saying that people in certain areas could have 'read' these tell-a-tale signs if they were educated on animal behaviour

i am serious if my country doesn't give more money i am not going to vote for them. Well actually i won't vote at all then because other then this party the rest are losers who would give so much less if they were in power.

Animals have a special sense scientist say when earthquake or natural disasters happen. They know when it's time to run away!!

"Bush announces tsunami aid coalition"
Bush also announces war on earthquakes. lol
First we going to break the plates, where the terrorists hide!!
The axis of evil are the Indian plate, the Eurasian plate and the Australian plate!*** Also they have weapons of mass destruction and they threaten freedom and democracy.

well you ask why i am trying to be funny. Well it makes me fell a little happy making fun of bush. Also I am sadden why the US have not given more aid.

***the three plates involved in earthquake

India's Tamil Nadu State Issues Tsunami Alert
NEW DELHI (Reuters) - The state government in India's Tamil Nadu state, which bore the brunt of the Indian Ocean tsunami, on Thursday issued a tsunami alert and warned people to leave coastal areas.

This is recent looks like India has learn thier leason the hard way.

.

man that has too suck, all those peaple gone...i feel really bad for their families!

The Sweden minister says that 1000 Swed's may have died in this disaster!! that would be The worst disaster for that country since WW2!!
strange cause I watch Swedish television and they talk about the numbers of missing Swedes, not once did they mention anything about presumed dead. They wont deprive people of hope, they all know the nunber of dead countrymen will increase, but even so they would never go out and presume a death toll based on prediction.

oh and Sweden didnt participate in WW II, they were neutral. Sweden biggest accident in recent times were the Estonia ferry disaster in 1994, 500 swedes died

i wish to donate money but i only have cash, so i have to wait untill someone comes to my door.

Hey, be careful of people coming to your door for donations. I work for an NBC affiliate and interviewed a Red Cross chapter yesterday. They said that it is not usually the practice of any large committed relief organization to go door to door asking for donations. Usually, and unfortunately, many scam artists use disasters like this tsunami as subject matter for stealing money from people who only want to help. I suggest you mail or turn in money in person to The Red Cross, or check out the Better Business Bureau's website and they should list legitimate organizations where you can donate money that will go to the people in suffering. I'm going to donate a hundred dollars to the Red Cross tomorrow, it's the least I can do. I highly encourage everyone to donate as much money as you can to help aid relief. The United States Government is only donating 35 million dollars as of now. The US medicine manufacturing cooperation, Pfizer, has matched the 35 million dollar donation. I hope more companies will show this type of generosity, starting a trend that will help those who are suffering.

They said that it is not usually the practice of any large committed relief organization to go door to door asking for donations
same here in Norway, donate money to an official bank account. You can do it from any bank you like, look too local info about proceding. If you have cash go to a bank and deposite it to account numbers that area OFFICIAL confirmed!!!!!!!

I don't think complaining about how much money Bush is giving to the disaster relief is important at this time. Pay more attention to what you can do to help. I'm sure the American people, not government, will donate far more than the US government's 35 million. This should not be about countries competing to see who cares the most about disaster relief. Governments of the world's nations are one thing, but the comman person such as you or me should do what we can to help, this is what will make the biggest impact.

personally I dont think the government should donate any money

🤨 and why not....

because I think we should only concern ourselves with our country

Thats really cruel, I really think that if something like this happened in the US that people from other countries would be donating to us too and help out. How can you look at all those pictures and all the dead children they show on tv and not want your country to help out, disgust especially since the US is the most powerful on earth.

I really just dont care, I know that makes me sound like a jackass but its true. Plus I havent see the pics.

This should not be about countries competing to see who cares the most about disaster relief.
how true

personally I dont think the government should donate any money
and your reason for that is?

Latest update of the Norwegian Swedish numbers.
