Not horrible, but the editing and such was unbearable. The acting was decent. But the story was pretentious and predictable as ****. It lead to a very boring time on my part. A decent sophomore movie, sure, but no Golden Palm winner, IMHO.I don't see why you all seem so surprised, it bombed, and got little critical acclaim.
Couldn't have bombed, as it was never in theatres. Only indie circuits, and considering it ended up being released by New Line a full 3 years AFTER it was made, has to account for something.
Besides, of course movies like these are predictable. That doesn't mean they can't be enjoyed. The film was intentionally over the top, not ostentatious or pretentious. It was an extreme dark comedy, and I thought all involved were FANTASTIC, namely Hillary Swank and Patrick Swayze.
I agree with the "undiscovered gem" remark. It took a major distributor to out the movie 3 years after its conception, to get it the attention it deserves, and never sought out. 100% on RottenTomatoes, glowing reviews all around. An incredible writing/directing debut, and we'll probably never hear from the guy again, and that's fine with me.
