Apparently they can, I cant imagine them wearing their uniforms while working a security gig if they weren't allowed to. Man, imagine the legal ramifications if they have to shoot someone.
It all sounds like utter bollocks to be honest. At no point would they be allowed to wear police uniform, while not working for the police, what a stupid thing to claim. Shoot someone? As long as they're not on duty, then they will have the exact same legal requirements and allowances as a bouncer would have, nothing more.

Those altercations aren't very rare at all where I am.Yet still the old bill turn up often at the behest of the bouncers, but they are totally seperate as a workforce.
The sight of the meat wagon rolling past is as common as the sight of packets of nuts and draught pumps in our high street's pubs.
The altercations are fairly rare around here, so I suppose it must be something to do with the work load at the time. If they've got time, stand on the door for a bit, if not - bugger off and give people parking tickets or something.

not a clue what you do, dont care. as Schec stated earlier, maybe you are lucky enough to have net access at work, like me.I work full time, yes. I live alone and have no kids.
why dont you leave what I say to others out of this? It has no bearing and is irrelevant.
No, you baby gorilla. You said "trying to understand why someone like him does the things he does", what is it that I do?
...And I',m at work right now.
It was an observation, you make them apparently, why can't I?
Originally posted by chillmeistergenall I can tell you is that I see them working extra jobs while in uniform all the time. Maybe they aren't allowed to and still do, I dunno.

I DO know that three or four years ago, the hotel I was working at was getting robbed left and right, and we had Sheriff's deputies working the lobby in full uniform.....Fvckers made $35.00 an hour.

So who arrests the rapists, murderers and other bad guys and while these guys are by the kegs...? Are there any problems with manpower distrubution...? IE are there enough cops..?
Rapist, murderers and all other unsavory folks take a break when the cops are making the "big bucks" checking ID's at bars.

They should be off-duty if they are working doors. If they aren't and get caught, their royally screwed.
And Cops can't wear uniforms as a bouncer. It's illegal, so that was complete bullshit RJ.
Originally posted by Sadako of Girthcops work in rotating shifts, just as we do. one gets off duty, another comes on duty.

The bar I was trying to get into, the cop was working alongside the bouncer, checking ID's. I never claimed he was the "bouncer", all I said was that he was the one who asked for my ID. Maybe he was overstepping his bounds, maybe not, I got in and got my drink on, thats all I care about.

Okay I get that, but if they are then off duty, then what at that time does the uniform mean/represent in that situation...?
Oh and: http://www.ci.tulare.ca.us/municipalcodes/Title_5/64/190.html
Originally posted by Sadako of GirthI haven't the foggiest, but they do indeed wear the uniform while working the extra jobs. Whether it is legal or not, that's not something I claim to know.

Doesn't really make sense though, does it? A bouncer gets paid less than a cop, yet when a cop who's off duty does the same job(meaning at that time they're a bouncer, not a cop), they get paid more. It sounds to me like you're information on this is all from word of mouth, and very ill informed indeed.
