PSP vs. DS : Which Will Be Better?

Started by Smasandian26 pages

Well, unlike a new console system that comes out like the PS2 which is compatible with PS1 games, the DS has better graphics but generally the handheld crowd doesnt play handheld games purely for graphics. Its for convience and gameplay. If its better graphically, thats a bonus. Look at Gamboy. It had horrible sound, graphics and no colour BUT, it outlasted all of the competition which had better graphics.
But, this is a new generation who grew up on better graphics and sound, so i dont know if that would fly or not with them.

Gameboy beat out the competition in its time for two reasons.

1) It had a much longer battery life than its competitors. Back in the day, the reason for this is actually BECAUSE the GB had simpler graphics and no color (except the green BG).

2) It had really good games. Sure, Sonic was awesome on the Game Gear, but Mario, Samus, and Link won the game battles for the GB.

Exactly. It wasnt graphics.

o my god this thread is so long i ve tried to read all of it but i just decided to skip to last so i can post first off i personally love the psp i think its incredible looking especially its screen thats all im saying im not going to put down nintendos handheld or there console or anything else but i do have some other coments

first off smasandian could you please tell me where you have found a portable dvd player for 60 bucks

second off the gizmondo looks ahh ok however im not going to pay 450 dollars for something that is only ok

and those are my 2 cents

woops i said first off twice didn't i alwell

Oh the Gizmando, its going to rule all.

My fault, you can pick one up for 130.

Right, well i have nearly read all the way through the 15 pages on this forum 😐 and i can tell you all which one is actually better, i have play both the psp and ds from imports ( i brought the ds and my mate brought the psp), and i can say without doubt that the DS is alot better, people have been saying the DS is big, but when it is shut it is pretty much the same size as the PSP.

For one day we swapped systems, and although, yes to begin with i liked the graphics, it just didnt have the gameplay or great functionality that the DS has. Even my mate said that after playing the DS he prefered that to his DS.

I will now tell you why the PSP is just not as good as some people think and some of the flaws that it has, having played it first hand.

1. You have said on here the PSP is for people like aged 20-30, but surely if they do buy the PSP, they will have an ipod or an equivient anyway, so they wont need the PSP for the music capabilites.

2. The movies used the PSP are an absolute joke, honestly can you see people rebuying there DVD collection on the UMD's, just so they can watch movies on the PSP, especially when you can buy a portable DVD player with a 10 inch screen or whatever size it is for less than the PSP, i do doubt it.

3. The loading times are a complete JOKE, you could get a game to load up and nearly have enough to time to get a tea or coffee by the time it has loaded, when it comes to handhelds, you dont really wanna keep waiting for it load all the time.

4. The battery lasts no where near as long as what people think, the DS battery lasts i would say when playing normal games more than twice as long.

5. PSP creators have actually told game designers NOT too make there games so that they stream directly from the disc, since it sucks up the battery life too quickly.

6. the square button is actually redicolously close to the screen, your thumb will be constantly on the screen, and the square worked about 80% of the time when i was playing on the PSP.

7. the build quality is just what you would expect from sony really, it is shocking bad, after a while of holding it, you feel almost like it will fall apart in your hands.

8. The prices of all of the software/hardware, i have heard rumors that if you would want a 1 gb memory stick, which most people would probably want for there music, it would cost you around $300.

I will now describe why the DS is better.

1. i cannot begin to describe what a difference the touch screen and mic make, the differences are simiply staggering, you will be playing games that you have never played before in your life, and using control systems that are simply revolutionary.

2. having 2 screens really does make a big difference, the possibilities that game designers can do with this is endless, i have 3 games with my DS (super mario 64 DS, feel the magic and Asphalt Urban GT) and i love the way the 2 screens are used.

3. You are still able to play all of your old GBA games on there, and because of the greatly improved screen and backlight, the games look better than ever.

4. The games are on game cards, which means no loading, you plug the games in and they play instantly.

5. on a 4 hour charge you can get around 10-12 hours out of the DS, which is around 2.5-3 hours gameplay on an hour charge.

So there you have it, i cannot really see how people can still say the PSP is better really, but in my opinion, you cannot go far wrong with a DS.

By the way u can get 1 gb of memory for 150 from Sandisk.

PSP is what i am rootin for

Im got Ds all im doing now is waiting for PSP to come out.

150 for memory is still pretty expansive.
I wonder why videogames journalists are still rooting for the PSP considering all the faults. It must have great games for people to look past the pretty important downfalls of the system.

Its pro duo which makes transfering videos and music faster. So I dont think its that bad but having the memory cheaper wouldn't hurt.

True. But when you buy a gameboy/ds game and you need to save something, you dont need to buy a save pack.

I know.

yeah but even if it is $150 for memory, that is still alot for something extra that you will need if you want to use the PSP as most people will want to. Sony are releasing there own version for $300 and are obviously recommending that you use that..so you have to pay about $250 or whatever the actual price will be, plus an extra $150-$300 for memory, thats just crap really as far as i am concerned, i mean with super mario 64 DS you can save 3 games on the game card, plus all of your records on the 30 odd mini games.

But You dont have to buy any memory becaus the psp cums with a 32 mb to save games.

True, but will 32 mb be enough for the games you buy. Just think, if you buy 10 games and you want to save those ten games, will 32 mbs be enough?

I personally dont know how much memory each save game takes but big gamers will probably have the shell out the big cash for the big save memory thingy.

yeah, i know that it comes with a 32mb card, however if you buy a PSP to use all of the features with it as most people will no doubt want to, you are going to have to shell out a fortune for all of the extras that you need.

I agree with you. It kinda of sucks.

U can get a 256 for 55 bucks and the game saves are only going to take up kb.
