Saw

Here's an idea - How about giving up on the recent trend of forced surprise endings. I'm getting sick and tired of every thriller type film forcing itself to have a surprise ending. This has been going on ever since Sixth Sense, since that movie basically got famous soley because of it's big shocker ending.

I miss movies where we didn't have to be shocked by who the killer actually turned out to be "or in the case of saw, where he ended up hiding the whole time". If a movie has a rely on the ending to get recognition, then that is a bad movie.

Ya ^ they do it all the time, Gothica also, and I know they'l keep on doing it

fair enough Backfire, it is a very valid point. and C-Dic, i noticed the bad "missing ankle" but **** it, i still like the movie

i disagree that saw has to rely on its ending to get recognition. I really enjoyed other parts of the film. As for surprise endings, well the ending is a big part of the movie. People like to play detective throughout the film and it is fun to me when i miss certain things and didnt add them up. To be honest the predictible ones seems less enjoyable for me.

How about a 50-50 trend for surprise endings?

That way, it really would be a surprise ending, if you think about it.

When I went to saw I had no idea there was a surprise ending. I went opening night for the one simple reason A horror movie in the theater. Its rare these days. And even though it turned out to be more of a thriller than a horror, I was entertained the whole way threw. A few jumpy scares and some truly horrific situations. I must give props to the first time director as well as the first time writer. And yes the surprise ending has become as cliche as th slasher was in the 80's, its just a trend folks, in 20 years everyone will look back and get a kick from our current little "Jawdropper" era. Much like I get a kick from watching Sleepaway Camp, The original surprise "WTF" just happend ending!!!

If you look back, wasn't the ending to Friday the 13th kind of a surprise? Did anyone suspect the nice old lady, Pamela Voorhees, was the killer?

I say surprise endings are better than predictable endings.

yeah if you watch a movie and the ending is blaringly obvious you think "why the hell did i sit through all of that to know the ending?"

Problem is now with so many "surprise" endings is that it's become expected whenever you watch a psychological thriller. So you're sitting their the whole time trying to piece together little clues rather then just watching and enjoying the movie as it was meant to.

yeah, then they throw something in out of left feild to shock people. i can see where your coming from

i have to disagree with backfire i loved saw and i love the surprise endings and i love putting together clues cause i still enjoy the movie

See Saw...

Greetings, you goblins...

I rented a copy of Saw last night...I had seen a couple of reviews that weren't too favourable - something about it being rather sadistic!?!?! - but I had been intrigued by the box office it brought in...

Well, well, well...I thought it was one of the best thrillers I've seen since Se7en. It's very similiar in style to Se7en - dark, lot's of red, twists and a killer with ideas of grandeur...

The first hour is excellent and you are made to constantly think of the ramifications of each of the characters actions, but then it feels like it is going down hill and turning into one of those run-of-the-mill serial killer movies...THANKFULLY, it doesn't hit the bottom and the ending is the stuff of 'WHAT THE ****!?!??!' responses...I certainly didn't see it coming, although in hindsight, there are definitely some clues...

Anyone else seen it? What did you think?

Saw is out for rent???

thought Saw didn't come out till next week??? 🤨

I live in Taiwan. Go see...it's gooooooooooood.

If you get scared, call me...I'll comfort you.

My number is 555-**69.

I saw saw and I didn't like what I had seen.

I think this is one of the top 5 movies of 2004 - probably top 10 of my all time. It is a great thriller and kept me on the edge of my seat all the way through.

You did need a bit of a strong stomach at time - but its more pshycological violence than graphical violence.

10/10 for me.

I didn't like what I saw, but it certainly intrigued and captivated me. Do you mean you didn't think the film was good or what I said?

What about the whole

Spoiler:
sawing off the foot scene
!?!?!?!?!?!

No, I didn't think it was good. Thought it was quite dumb really. I wrote a review for it, somewhere. Can't find the thread though.

Fair enough, but you thought the Texas Chainsaw Massacre remake was good!?!?! Why did you think it was dumb?
