Knight Errant
Questing alone with just one desire,
A lady to lay by at his fire,
A sigh released into frosty air,
Only he and his horse standing near,
Moving about to get his blood flowing,
Checking his armor, each morning knowing,
One more fight could be his last,
But one more fight might be a blast,
To end this unforgiving ache,
The thirst only true love could slake,
The blinded eyes that wish for light again,
Not sex or lies, just truth, not sin,
Getting atop the his spotted steed,
The man thinks again about his creed,
To protect the innocent, a Stalwart Defender,
And fight the evil, a Famous Warrior, a sender,
His name and his creed the same they be,
But still all he can feel is missing, empty,
All the battles won and lives helped,
And forever alone is all he felt,
He leans down and whispers to the mustang softly,
"Perhaps today not a battle, but my love we'll see!"
They both smile inwards, knowing briefly,
That'll be the day! And they leave laughing.
