Beyond Propaganda
there's no peace without justice. i wouldn't blame some iraqis if they think they'd rather be oppressed by their own son of a ***** than be oppressed by another country's son of a *****. this reminds me of a dialogue between characters in csi about a spider struggling from drowning in a water bowl yet survives day after day, and when in a kind gesture, a man "saved" the spider and put him on the floor, he found it squashed the following day. hey, it took filipinos 300 or more years to kick the spanish colonizers out, and 25 years to oust a us-backed dictator. sometimes change has to come from within, even if it takes that long. but even if the us invasion of iraq was well-meaning (and i doubt that, really), it was not wisely thought of. lots of tactical and strategic mistakes. and they totally alienated europe and polarized the globe. if the downfall partly means "detachment" and loss of credibility, then maybe, iraq was america's downfall.
