Our military VOLUTEERS are stretched thin right now.
That's why a lot of countries are being more vocal like North Korea, Iran, etc....
They know the US can't make a move right now because they have too many troops in Iraq.
but with a draft they would have the man power to create a gigantic army...and they have the finances to supply that army.
If the United States was stuck going against a country like China....I think support for new budgets would change significantly.
The big military budget complaints are mainly coming from individuals who are opposed to the war in Iraq....because it's not a necessary war. (yes i know NO wars are necessary...bare with me here)
i think the people of china will not let their own government go to war against the US...
nowhere in the world is the difference between the government and its people so pronounced as it is in china...the government are still a stricly (psuedo) communist regime but the people are as westernised as its possible to be (particularly is cities)
the relationship between the US and China is vital to both countries...the continued massive growth of China's economy relies on the US importing huge amounts of chinese manufactured goods and the US relies on getting those goods at a cheap price from China
anybody been to bejing in the past few years...its like walking down any street in a big city in the US...same stores..same designer goods...same cloned people
IF it would come to war the chinese would not invade any country they would sit back and let the others come to them. They'd probably try to defend themselves the best way they can against the US Air Force. Use their subs to TRY and annoy the carrier groups. Try to keep the americans from making land-fall as much as possible. However with all the allies the US has in the region: Russia, South Korea, Taiwan, The Philippines and so on (cause many more would side with the US) they would have no problem getting troops into China and they would have pretty safe havens to keep Air Control.
It would end up very messy but the US would win it
However with all the allies the US has in the region:Russia, South Korea, Taiwan, The PhilippinesRussia aint allied with the US. You are right with the defence part though, the Chines military is based on defence thats why it probably wont launch an attack on Taiwan as of yet. Rumors has it that the Chinese navy are looking into the possibility of building/gaining air craft carriers for military purposes and not amusement park kind of thing like what happened with those they bought form Russia some years ago. If the Chinese should get aircraft carriers though Taiwan better go to defcon 2, cause gettting aircraft carriers would move the Chinese military from a defencive stand to an offensive one.
US would aid Taiwan defending Taiwan, not to invade China
I know that Russia ain't formally an allie of the US but I am fairly confident that they would side with the US should this ever happento side with someone in a war and to be an ally is two very different things, this way Russia can side with USA while they sell weapons to the Chinese
I doubt that would be the case if US attacked a country as powerful as chinawhat would a country`s strength have to do with anything
I think they did, becaue they knew iraq would lose, and they didnt want ot lose face woth the US.
They wouldnt want to support an attack on china, as they would be worried bout what would happen if china wins, and then turns their attentions to the allies of the US. They wouldnt want to go against a powerful country
