# The trial costs for death cases were about 16 times greater than for non-death cases ($508,000 for death case; $32,000 for non-death case).
# The appeal costs for death cases were 21 times greater.
# The costs of carrying out (i.e. incarceration and/or execution) a death sentence were about half the costs of carrying out a non-death sentence in a comparable case.
# Trials involving a death sentence averaged 34 days, including jury selection; non-death trials averaged about 9 days.

Florida spends millions extra per year on death penalty
Florida would save $51 million each year by punishing all first-degree murderers with life in prison without parole,
according to estimates by the Palm Beach Post. Based on the 44 executions Florida has carried out since 1976, that amounts to an approximate cost of $24 million for each execution. This finding takes into account the relatively few inmates who are actually executed, as well as the time and effort expended on capital defendants who are tried but convicted of a lesser murder charge, and those whose deathe sentences are overturned on appeal. (Palm Beach Post, January 4, 2000)

Florida spent average of $3.2 million per execution from 1973 to 1988
During that time period, Florida spent an estimated $57 million on the death penalty to achieve 18 executions. (Miami Herald, July 10, 1988)

Total cost of Indiana's death penalty is 38% greater than the total cost of life without parole sentences
A study by Indiana's Criminal Law Study Commission found this to be true, assuming that 20% of death sentences are overturned and resentenced to life. (Indiana Criminal Law Study Commission, January 10, 2002)

Do the math.

But its the veageance for the family members is worth it

Vengeance never satisfies people in real life.

Yes he does.

Justice prevails!

i've heard that before the penalty actually takes place it will be a long of time of appelation procedury.

Anywhere from 5 - 15 years generally

that's the very sad part of all this....the justice system is sooooo freakin slowww

The sad part is that someone can be convicted and sentenced to death with absolutely no material evidence linking him to the crime because people want "justice" for a sympathetic victim.

It's not supposed to be about vengeance, but justice.

^ ✅

That's a very wise thing to say BackFire.

Amen

What's your opinion on the death sentence? Do you think Scott Peterson was treated fairly?

He got a fair trial but I dont believe in the death penalty... Just my personal opinion. If the state kills a person for killing someone else that makes them no better than the one convicted. plus, movements like Project Innocence have proven that there are several if not ALOT of innocent people on death row. Its not worth killing one innocent man to execute 100 guilty ones. Besides, it doesnt bring the victim back so whats the point really other than revenge?

Yes, there was plenty of evidence. It was all circumstantial but seemed valid nonetheless....

i see 😕

Im quite glad that he did tho 😕 😉

I have never heard of this case before today, this is interesting.

And a general question, who actually decides who gets the death penalty? is it the judge, the family or a senate/comitee? All i know is, even if the criminal did something barbaric, i wouldnt have it in me to end his life, like my decision would end him, i couldnt live with that.

So i guess im not for the death penalty.

Imagine the electricity bill for electrocutions, that would damage your wallet somewhat.

EDIT: i remember hearing somewhere a while ago, i think possibly an RE class, that if a prisoner survives the death penalty (electrocution) 3 times he gets to go free because "god does not want him to die" or some crap, anyone else heard this?

man i wouldnt want to live after being fried 3 times.

lol, nice one chickinmeat.....

I think the judge decides what the final penilty should be if he's found guilty. It is an interesting case. I think seen he's found guilty and its pretty clare that he did do it, he should admit to it...
