If Korea was ever about to get that crazy-powerful, China would step in and put a stop to that nonsense. Remember what happened in the late 90's with the Asian financial crisis? China is in part to blame. They saw the ASEAN starting to encroach on their market of cheap exports and they upped their shit.
Then there's the truth that if America sneezes, the world gets a cold. I know you non-Americans don't like to hear it, but it's true; financially speaking, we all rely on each other and America is a heavy hitter. 2008 America takes one in the economic balls; over countries feel it in their wallets.
