he knew the first half of it 😛
voldi not knowing the second half of the prophecy, chose Harry as his enemy... but if he knew the whole prophecy... things could have been worse for Neville....
so voldi didnt die of the rebounded spell bcoz of some steps that he overtook many years ago against death... as voldi thinks death is the worst thing for a person.. jk has not told us about that steps that he overtook.. we will probably find them in the coming books... 🙂
now let us think upon this... why didnt dumbledore try to kill voldi in his duel with him in the 5th book?
(plus i have come up with another question... the whole five book was abt prophecy.. voldi wanted the whole prophecy.... the major goal of death eaters in 5th book was prophecy.. means voldi somehow came to know that he didnt know the full prophecy... somebody must have told him that the prophecy he have heard is incomplete... so this means .. someone else who is close to either Harry or most probably to Dumbledore(dumbledore is the only person who knew the whole prophecy)... is a Voldi spy... what do you all think?? )

Well Trelawny made the prophecy... but thats all i can think of.
And this is my theory on the two questions JK said to focus on.
Its probaly way off, but.......
I think that Voldemort didnt die when the curse rebounded off Harry because of the prophecy. It say "Either must die in the hands of the other." and in this case, voldemort made the spell and it hit him. So that means Voldemort hit himself with his own spell and thats why he didnt die. Harry has to kill him or Voldemort has to kill Harry.
And Dumbledore didnt kill Voldemort either because Harry has to kill Voldemort or Voldemort Has to kill Harry.
If ur rite about the steps thing... then my first answer is wrong.

Do you think Harry got that power when the spell rebounded of Harry or on to Voldermort? Or when Voldermort took Harry's blood to help him be reborn?
Harry got Voldemort's power when Voldemort's spell backfired and hit himself. The reason Voldemort took Harry's blood was so he would be able to touch Harry. In the first book he wasn't able to. The reason was because Lily(Harry's mother)was trying to protect her son. When she sacrificed herself for Harry, it caused something to happen. That is why Voldemort couldn't kill Harry. He had his mother's blood running through his veins. His mother loved him and Voldemort couldn't stand that. That is the one power Voldemort doesn't have and the one power he doesn't understand. He took Harry's blood because he would then have Lily's blood running through himself as well. All this also has to do with why Harry has to stay with his aunt and uncle. Aunt Petunia shares the same blood as Lily. I hope that all made sense!
Just in case, here is a an excerpt from Goblet of Fire:
"'I wanted the blood of the one who has stripped me of power thirteen years ago...for the lingering protection of his mother once gave him would then reside in my veins too....'"
Anyways I hope I helped you. So now for a few theories of my own that have to do with The Half-Blood Prince. My first one will be who I think the half-blood Prince will be, and why.
I think that the half-blood Prince might be the protector of half-bloods. It isn't an actual title, and you don't get picked because of your blood. I think it is just a person who leads/protects the half-bloods. I happen to believe that Godric's soul is in Fawkes. It would make sense. In Chamber, Fawkes brings Harry the sorting hat. Who does this hat belong to? Godric. What comes out of the hat? Godric's sword. What color is a phoenix? Red and gold. And the colors of Gryffindor? Red and gold. This would make sense if Godric is the half-blood Prince because Fawkes does a lot to protect half-bloods. Such as when he swallowed the Avada Kedarva curse when it was aimed at Dumbledore. Also in Chamber of Secrets, he saved Harry's life when his tears healed Harry's wound from the basilik. There is even a few more things I could name. One of them wasn't direct help. In Goblet of Fire when the Priori Incantatem happens, Harry hears the song of the phoenix. It gives him strength and because of it, the connection doesn't break. Here is another quote from the book:
"It was the sound he connected with Dumbledore, and it was almost as though a friend were speaking in his ear...."
He connects it with Dumbledore because Dumbledore owns a phoenix. I guess that is all I have to say on that.
Why didn't Dumbledore try to kill Voldemort in the first book when he had the chance to? Well I was thinking along the lines of what DanZeke25 said. The prophecy states that only Harry can vanquish the Dark Lord. It could have been another thing though. If I remember correctly, Voldemort was possessing Harry to say that.
"Let the pain stop, thought Harry. Let him kill us....End it, Dumbledore....Death is nothing compared to him....And I'll see Sirius again...."
If Dumbledore were to kill him right then, Harry would have die as well. But there is another thing I was thinking. What if because of the connection Harry has with Voldemort, if Dumbledore were to have killed Voldemort even if he wasn't possessing Harry, maybe Harry would have died anyways. "For neither can live while the other survives.." That might mean that they can't live unless one of them is still alive. But if one were to die, the other would die too. It doesn't make sense. It sounds as if both have to die at the same time. If one has to be alive for the other to survive then if one is alive, then the other can still be alive even if they get "killed". Or maybe it does just mean if one kills the other, the other still dies. Maybe the "other" is Neville. Of course that would make no sense at all because "For neither can live while Neville survives" and well they are both alive even though Neville is alive too. If they both have to die then Harry wouldn't have been thinking that he has to either be a murderer or be murdered. Unless he didn't understand it. Also Dumbledore would have told him. Of course maybe Dumbledore didn't tell him because he knew Harry would just let Voldemort kill him if it were that way. The main thing we have to think about is that one part of the prophecy. I don't think Neville is involved with the prophecy anymore. Voldemort picked Harry. Harry has the powers of Voldemort and a power that Voldemort doesn't know about(I think that is probably love).
Well I have to go now. There is even more things I would like to say..Of course I am sure this is long enough!

I don't have my books here w/ me!!!!!! But, we didn't know about the order in Book 4, so probably not.Or are you talking about in Book 5 Ada...I don't think those in the Order aim to kill...I think they would stupefy or something and let Azkaban take it from there. I think the only one who died in Azkaban was Barty Crouch Jr.'s mom (for those who don't remember they switched places via Polyjuice Potion and Crouch's House Elf was to watch Jr.) The others just go crazy or something while there (except Sirius b/c he knew he was innocent), and they only die if they receive a kiss from a Dementor...I don't remember, but did Crouch Jr. get the kiss? And what happened to Crouch Sr.? Now I have a question...what's up w/ Azkaban?!?! First Sirius, and then a whole SLEW of other Death Eaters escaped in book 5...were they apprehended in the end? Have the Death Eaters already gone to Voldemort? Dumbledore must hate being right about EVERYTHING!!!
Crouch Jr did get the kiss -- but he didn't die, his soul was destroyed.
