OCTOBER 21, 2008 BIG ANNOUNCEMENT COMING FROM LUCASART!

Stay tuned!

mmm

Let's hope.

Indeed

It's Official! Bioware confirmation.

It will be call

Star Wars: The Old Republic!

The wait is finally over! The first details of EA and BioWare's long-kept secret MMO project, Star Wars: The Old Republic were revealed moments ago at a press conference is still underway in San Francisco.

SWTOR is based on the Knights of the Old Republic universe from BioWare's Xbox and PC creations. The Old Republic is a "story-driven MMO," and Bioware jokes that The Old Republic is KOTOR 3,4,5 and beyond.

The Old Republic is BioWare's first take into the MMORPG world. BioWare said that each player in the upcoming MMO will have their own unique story, where again, consequences will be faced whether the player chooses to walk the path of light or delve into the dark side.

BioWare's Greg Zeschuk said during the press event that companion characters in The Old Republic would play a significant role. Much like the support characters in the past KOTOR titles, whether the players decides to become a Sith Lord or a Jedi Knight, companion characters will change according to the player's decisions.

Players can embark on their new Star Wars journey through the Sith Empire or the Galactic Republic, each supporting multiple sub-classes with unique storylines. Game art director Jeff Dobson said that his team focused on making each character in the game iconic to promote each class further to players. So, creating our very own Han Solo and Boba Fett could be very possible indeed.

Stay tuned for more updates about the game.

It sounds like they placed in the right time period (Jedi civil war) and I look forward to reading(not sure if I will get an mmorpg) more information on Revan/Malak's sith empire but I want closure to the story arc god dammit! 😠

Nice job, Bioware. Way to fvck up a good series by making it a shitty MMO.

We wanted Kotor 3, not a fvcking shitty WoW/Galaxies rip-off. 🙄

Seconded

third that motion. finish the freaking story.

GODDAMMIT BIOWARE!!!! Are they trying to kill star wars? Me and kinslayer have been waiting forever for a renewal of the glory of KotOR and this is what we get. Another game made for fan boys and broad audeinces to increase profits.

Game makers have almost no respect for games any more. What happened to substance, story, innovation, and the art form that was game design. FVCK YOU LUCAS ARTS!!!!! Do people even think about the things that make a star wars game much less a KotOR game before making these retarded desicions??

Sorry but I needed to rage.

Hell yeah we have, Atticus!!! This thread was virtually dead until yesterday! I just heard about this and all I need to say is F$%#*@%#$*%#$@%$#$%**@@$#$@ck!!!!

We've been complaining and complaining and praying to God that this wouldn't be an MMO and of course. I'm so angry!

The only good thing I can think of is by the time this comes out, I'd have my new laptop for college and I'll be able to actually play it.

It's still not the same! I swear to God I felt a disturbance in the force today when I felt the incredible urge to play Kotor again. (about 5 hrs before this post). I want to sit down on my mutha-f'in couch and play a straight-up 360 game not some shitty game with people going, "LOLZ ROFLZ I PWNED UR ASS!!!1!!1 ZOMG NUB!!1" kind of like WoW.

ARGGGGHHHHHHHHHHh!

Oh and another good thing is that its Bioware and not Obsidian making it. That makes me smile a little more. And hey, some Kotor is better than none, even if it is 300 years after Kotor 2.

And that totally kills the whole explanation of...WHERE THE HELL IS REVAN!?!?!

P.S. I wonder if Ush is going to come back and take over the thread with his great mod powers now that it's back on track.

Ugh, I'm not pleased...

What I don't get is how exactly Revan/Malak's sith empire survived 300 years after their death, then went througha couple of civil war and the defeat of the triumvirate.

with any luck they'd at least hint to it.

Well apparently at this moment in time Bioware has this new sith empire being led by Naga Sadow. They explained that he kept himself alive through dark rituals. I was under the impression that Freedon Nadd killed Sadow, though I suppose they could come up with some reason for him surviving since they brought back Palpatine from the dead multiple times.

How do we know it's Sadow? They just call him the Sith Emperor, I didn't see mention of a name anywhere.

Sadow IS dead. He's confirmed killed by Nadd several times.

Now, your information comes from...where?

"Sadow and many other Dark Lords went into hiding beyond the boundaries of known space. There, in secret, they began to rebuild their power and nurse their dreams of revenge. The Dark Lord, having prolonged his life with many dark rituals, personally directed the establishment of a new fleet and a powerful Imperial army. As his military forces were gathering strength, he started infiltrating systems in the Galactic Republic's Outer Rim, fomenting dissent among the people and making secret alliances with numerous crime bosses and warlords.

The Republic capital of Coruscant is still suffering the effects of war.
With his fleets ready and his fifth columnists in place in the Outer Rim, Sadow finally launched his attack. The Republic and the Jedi Order, who thought Sith power had been destroyed, were taken completely by surprise. In a very short time, the Sith captured dozens of worlds along the Outer Rim and crippled the Republic by destroying the shipyards in the Sluis sector and choking off the vital Rimma Trade Route.

The Republic and the Jedi fought back as best as they could, but world after world fell to the Sith advance. The long war waged across the frozen wastes of Ilum and the desert plains of Dathomir. The Sith Empire destroyed everything they came into contact with, even attacking the neutral planets like Manaan. There they destroyed the entire surface of the planet, forcing the Selkath to retreat to their underwater strongholds. The Sith Empire's onslaught seemed unstoppable.

But then, with the Republic reeling from dozens of defeats, Naga Sadow did something else that wasn't expected; he offered peace terms. The Republic had already lost thousands of Jedi and numerous worlds to the Sith so, rather than risk further losses, the Supreme Chancellor agreed to enter negotiations for a settlement. The Sith used the peace negotiations as a diversion for a strike on Coruscant, the capital of the Republic. Imperial Forces sacked the planet, destroying the Jedi Temple and killing six Jedi Masters.

With Coruscant held hostage, the Sith Lord again offered peace terms. But this time, they were even less favorable than before. He demanded that the Republic surrender key systems in the Outer Rim and withdraw their support for several allies, including their most faithful friends, the Bothans. Facing a supply crisis and a hostile occupation in the heart of the Republic, the Supreme Chancellor had no choice but to agree."

This is some of the back story behind the new game. Source: Click

Ok, here's betting it's some other Sith using Sadow's name because this smacks canon in the face

Well this must be the true sith mentioned in kotor 2 but I would have to agree with Lightsnake numerous sources say Naga Sadow is dead, I'd much rather this be a new a different ancient sith (personally I wanted to know more about Tulak Hord)
