i would have to say WE WERE SOLDERS but i just watched a new one called SAINTS AND SOILDERS based on a true story and for a low budget it was really good you guys should check it out and let me know what you think although all the other movies you guys listed were great also

why do so many people think we were soldiers was good...it was totally dire...it ranks as one of the worst war movies ever... and trying desperately to push the emotion button by having the "wives with the telegrams" plot is just to obvious

Honor, heroism, the real suffering or special effects ( because there are people who watch movies only for this ) or else.....

I say : a good war movie is the one which makes you fear it.

In fact, "Black Hawk Down" isn't a war movie, either. That's a common misperception, though. A good movie nonetheless.

Star Wars.. a war movie?

Enemy at the Gates. Very acurrate retelling of the Battle of Stanlingrad(the Russians used suicide waves often in the early part of the war). Band of Brothers was very good, also read the book. The Omaha beach assult in "The Longest Day" is just horrendous. See Saving Private Ryan for a more accurate look.

The Longest Day should be called the Longest movie. Me and my dad rented it one night, and there were two tapes. We started watching around 7:00 p.m. and it ended at almost midnight.
