this is semi-related:
There's this guy that runs a "Destiny Church" who was on TV the other night talking about teenager and sex and abstinence, etc...
He really bugged me... His argument was that kids should not be having sex at all out of wed-lock. And his reason was that it ruins your life... even if you a re both consenting to it! Now, is it just me, or is this guy totally freckin nuts!?!
How the hell can having sex ruin your life? He was asked wether he had sex before marriage (the interview of course knew that he did) and he said yes to which the interviewer said "and it clearly didn't destroy your life" and the guy replied "Yes it did". But, it only 'destroyed' your life because you let it... because you made it such a big deal!
This guy says that kids are not given the choice to abstain... or that abstinence is not promoted enough, or as much as condoms etc. Well abstinence isn't promoted as much because teachers know teenagers are going to have sex... better they do it safely...
There's this whole thing they do, where they (teens) swear not to have sex before marraige. They have to wear a ring, and if they break that promise they have to flush the ring down the toilet symbolising them flushing part of their life away... 😆 it really makes me laugh that people do this kind of thing...
I don't understand Christians' belief that contraception destroys life... if God didn't want us to 'waste' sperm then why did he create us so that we release millions of these little guys and maybe only one of them gets through? Why do we have nocturnal emmissions (a completely natural, involuntary thing)?
I mean, it's fine to hold these beliefs.. I have no problem with that... But to go out and preach them to the rest of the world like he does is stupid and inconciderate and I believe prejudiced against non-christians...
Read Wilhelm Reich's "The Mass Psychology of Fascism" and you'll get why I'm so damn opposed to the off-the-wall sexual repression that the fundies preach. I can see, say, keeping Michael Jackson-esque stuff from happening, but a couple of teenagers making love should not be frowned upon or shunned.

I think if an adolescent understands the --no pun intended-- ins and outs of sex, they are competent of formulating their own decisions w.r.t. their own sex life. But if a kid who knows nothing about it, knows of it only from hushed giggling on the recess playground at grade school, and has no experience whatsoever with contraceptives and protective measures, then they're not all that well-equipped to give their consent. But therein lies the problem.

I was 13 the first time I had sex with a girl. And I'm a fascist. What luck!
yea, I'm pretty sure that's the case...
it would be considered rape if someone had sex with someone under 16 as they are not legally able to give consent...
but, I mean, it's pretty hard to police that... if two people under 16 'consent' to having sex I don't really see how the authorities would ever find out...
