Luthor is a scientific genius himself.... but the fact that, in 75 years, he hasn't beaten Superman even with all his wonderful toys, should tell you something. If they make Kryptonite rain-dropping clouds? Superman claps his hands together and blows them away (probably driving a crater into several square miles of land in the process.)
If they make red sun generators? In the time it takes them to aim and fire, Superman's already taken the whole team apart.
And for the last time.... Torquasm Rao is the martial art of mental combat. Superman doesn't even have to beat Xavier and White Queen's mental attack, he just needs a moment to spot them, and then it's radical brain surgery time.

you are seriously undersestimating the x-men. They could dress in kryptonite suits and dance around with a week of preptime, and theyre not a bunch of pushovers without it either. But with it its an easy win for them.

Luthor didn't win in 70 years because it's Superman's comic book, not because he was never capable with his brains and plans. Luthor is FAR from an idiot. He's maybe a half-breath at most behind Doom, Panther, and Batman when it comes to diabolical genius and schemes. He's simply destined to fail because he's a villain. He's riding the bench right next to Apocalypse; both shaking their heads in disgust at how the writer's portray them. Beast and Xavier are no idiots. They're not T'Challa, Bats or Victor, but they're not exactly Rhino either. They can, with a week and detailed info on their target, devise a plan that works. Supes has fallen into traps before, and the X-Men have taken out superior opponents before.

Nope I love the Xmen specially early CLaremont when I was a kid. I do think they lost there way for a while. Now CC is back it should be better But Supes kicks the New Xmen into touch power wise, I accept telepathy might stop him, but he doesn't lose like that often.
I also accept with Phoenix the Xmen would win.
