"Oh," says Annuneryn, "a few centuries ago the Witch King was victorious at Amon Sul and his army rampaged unopposed near our southern borders. That was Cardolan's fatal blow. That was a time of true crisis. Orcs from Angmar and Gundabad have threatened us for centuries, and it is true that their latest attack was stronger than normal, but therer's no real need for hysteria. This is just the way things are; I'd kill every Orc in Middle-Earth tomorrow if I could. But they are just a fact of life. Rather like the Hillmen."

"Indeed, or Southrons... Yet there is a certain - transition - at the moment, with the reorganisation of armies. This perhaps leaves Ardelain a little more exposed than you would like?"

Darvan will approach Lord Farael, and greet him.
"I see you carry an interesting weapon, Lord. Will you be taking part in the melee?"

"A passing matter," says Annuneryn. "I am sure if there was great vulnerability and someone willing to exploit it, we would already know of it."

---

"Boy's games," says Farael.

"My Apologies, to both of you, especially to you Your Highness. The exact terms and conditions of respect still manage to be a fleeting concept at times."

"You mean as an Elf, a High Elf at that, you have no respect for any not in your image," says Morsire.

---

'Three! comes the cry for your shot, Ellothiel. Tricky shot, this. You are looking to beat eight over the three shots.

Hmmmm.

I'll go for not aiming for the black and simply aiming to hit for the next shot, then, and see how that goes.

"There are always vulnerabilities, always people willing to exploit them. Look at Rhudaur, Cardolan... Of Arnor, only Arthedain is left." Menelacar pauses, gauging Annuneryn's reaction. "Indeed, we have known such troubles in Gondor, as the Wainriders show."

"And are all who play them boys?" Darvan asks.

"Rhudaur and Cardolan were not of the true line. They sowed their own destruction when they refused to accept the line of Kings."

-

"No," says Farael. "Just men playing games for boys."

'Perhaps Athedain sowed Cardolan's destruction when you left them to battle Angmar after clearing off with the palantir,' Menelcar thinks to himself.

"Nevertheless, that leaves Arthedain more exposed, and after the unfortunate destruction of Embylosse, it seems important that Arthedain employs the right leaders for its new armies."

"Well, yes, of course. Someone must lead, to the East and to the North."

"Who do you think would do well? Farael? Morsire? Perhaps one of the princes?"

"Most likely one of the Lords. Farael is keen but... well.. you know..."

"er...no? You will excuse me, but I am only recently arrived. What do you mean?"

"Well... he's not a noble as such..."

"I say if he could get the job done, then nobility would not matter so much," Anglomir says.

"And how is he not a noble? In the same way as Lord Seinost, perhaps?"

You roll about the same again, Ellothiel, but that actually puts you well clear of the lower target of fifty. I roll a d10, subtract three and that is your score. I roll a 4!

One! comes the cry... better!

---

"No no no," says Annuneryn. "He's not really a Dunadan, is the thing."

Well, that worked much better.

I'll do that again for the final shot - aim for hitting, not the black.

"Yet you seem to have a lack of respect towards myself..."
