"Me? Oh no. No no no. Too young. As for Farael... it's not a matter of what I think, but the way things are," says Annuneryn. "As you yourself are well aware, of course, Dunadain are the leaders of Men. Farael's almost a commoner. My father would have none of it!" He shrugs and seems to think about something. "Maybe he should get one of them after all though... ahh, who knows?"
Annuneryn seems uncomfortable answering that.
"Well... his lineage is not 100% pure... his line married a lot of commoners."
Sounds like the kind of thing that caused the Kin Strife to you, Menelacar. Some people take this extremely seriously. After all, the Black Numenorieans have already lost much of their Dunadain genetics- no great loss to the world- and the so-called Corsairs, the losing part of the Kin-Strife, have gone the same way.
You aren't sure why he'd be so uncomfortable though. The Kin Strife was centuries ago.
You're not sure about this guy, Menelacar. He's a Lord, on the Council no less, but he's not dressed as finely as, say, Gorlim, nor does he apparently have any battle honours, nor, from talking to him, is he a consumate politician.
"I take it you are of pure blood then, as I am? Of course you are, you must be to be on the ruling Council of Arthedain at such a young age. We are both of a similar age. Perhaps you could give me some advice for matching your achievements when I return to Gondor?"
"I'm surprised about Farael's lineage. He comes across as a no-nonsense man, but I would never have guessed. I assume you heard of the 'trouble' we had in Gondor regarding non-pure Dunedain? Most unfortunate ." Menelacar emphasises the last word, gauging Annuneryn's reaction.
