Elves don't mix that well in pubs, which are rowdy and common places. Asking around is not a bad idea but perhaps a different target could be found? There are others amongst you more suited to pub work.
Your first opponent is actually a common man, Menelacar, an unusual entrant in such a joust; a rider in the King's army.
The Princess has been watching, of course, as hers is the favour to give. Quite a crowd here out on the field, with pavillions all around making the sight not dissimilar to a modern day stadium, though quite low.
Gorlim and Annphor have come to watch the Joust also.
Helmet on, Menelacar! Time for your first run...
A tiny tad on the direct side that one. Mr. Took. Also in general you are not sure these people would know specific Dunedain, as they seem to be mostly common men- and with little reason to talk to you about particulars simply off the bat. You may need a more detailed approach... What is your Presence score, btw?
---
Time for the Joust to begin!
Menelacar makes his first run against his foe... all suddenly falls silent from the crowd, the only noise being the rumble of horse approaching horse...
Riding roll: 10 + 35 - 45... failure! Darn, not quite familiar with this horse yet, Menelacar...
Polearms roll: 09... eek! Not your best start there. Lulling him into a false sense of security, maybe.
His rolls are 25 on the horse- not so good, and neither of you are that well balanced on the approach. But 75 on the polearm! He's got the measure of the balance of that weapon, and strikes you directly on the shield, Menelacar- and you fall!
1 - 0 to our Common Man, whom I shall call Gospatrick.
We go again!
Well, there's a turn-up. A natural 100 on your riding roll, Menelacar! Shame, that sort of luck should be saved for a later round...
63 on your Lance roll is respectable too. 135 and 88 against difficulties of 50 gives you 121. he'll be hard pressed to beat thatm but can he save himself?
No. he tries very hard indeed, with a 91 on his Polearms roll, but he misjudged his balance; 08 on his horse roll. Gives him a 66 in total- Menelacar's horsemanship takes the round, making is opponent look sdlow and clumsy despite hois good lancework. Both of you clash, but Menelacar is well-seated and stays up, whilst Gospatrick is already half-off his horse and falls heavily!
A cheer from the crowd for a good-looking match; 1 all. Now the decider!
Took/Elladil- as I say, I need a bit of a strategy there; people are not just going to randomly answer questions. Anyone else want to get in on the social act?
---
85 and 83 rolled by Menelacar! Greatly superior to 42 and 59... with the tension high for the deciding strike, Menelacar is happily in his stride and Gospatrick is taken firmly down!
2-1 to Gondor, and through to the next round!
