Well sure he did, once it had happened he may as well use it to his advantage. That alone isn't proof that his face being that way was his intention or desire all along. His intention was that the Queen not escape Naboo in TPM, but once she did he used it to his advantage nonetheless.
Darth Sidious and Master Yoda are Equal, Sidious maybe 2-3% of power level above him, but just that, a slightly difference.
Mace Windu is clearly under Sidious.Sidious manipulated the entire fight.

As far as canon goes, movies > books. Since the movies clearly showed Yoda handing it to Sidious, what the books might potentially have said to the contrary is irrelevant.

To each his own. Some will believe Mace beat Sids, others will believe Sids was toying with Mace in order to manipulate Anakin.
I havent voted cause I also believe that Yoda and Sids was a tie. But Mace was never really superior to Sidious. Only in his mind.
It all depends on how you see things and tie them in with the OT. Sids is the Master manipulator. He did it to Anakin in ROTS and he did it to Luke in ROTJ. Difference was Luke didnt turn all the way.
Ahh well. No point in debating any further for me. Great movie and im going to go see it again in a couple of days. Yoda and Sids rock.

I can't believe people are like "didn't you see him crawl away? He looked defeated!" Because thats the friggin' gag people! Its supposed to LOOK like he's defeated. Its called ACTING. All of you who believe he was defeated fell for his deception, much like Anakin did. Pretty funny actually.

It should be noted that mace is probably better at saber skills than Yoda. He owned Sidious' ass.
My reasoning:
From the article I just read...Anakin was just as good as Yoda or Sidious at saber skills...but a level 8, Obi, defeated him Anakin.
In episode II, Obi Wan would have been a level 7 or 8. When Obi Wan fights against Jango, he has a very difficult time fighting him. On Geonosis, (SP?) Mace easily defeats Jango in a matter of seconds. The difference in power between Anakin and Obi is only 1 in saber skills and it took a long time to fight that battle. Obi was generally on the defensive in that fight but he still won. If Mace easily defeated Jango in a matter of seconds....while a battle was going on no less...it is quite apparent that Mace is a very high ranking 9...because he easily owns Sidious and Jango.
No doubt, once Mace defeated Sidious, he tried to play for his time as much as possible and used Anakin to save him. Mace has a unique, fighting style that I would place above even Yoda but still not a general 10 because there hasn't been a 10 yet. (I am a 10 no doubt biotches 💃.)
Now, saber skills do not specifically define a force user's power. There is knowledge of the force and there are Saber skills...which they do depend on each other but not 100%. Example is Qui Gon. He is not an adept Saber fighter as compared to Obi but Qui was definitely up their in force abilities.
Also, I think it should be noted that Obi's ability is to overcome someone more powerful than he is because he defeats Maul and Anakin...who are both better than he is...or at least they are supposed to be better than he is.
Is any of my logic flawed or do you guys follow me?
Palpatine is not going to intentionally get his lightsaber KICKED out of his hand, so that he can cower, defenseless, allowing the saber of the best swordsman in the order to hover inches from him. All it would take from Mace was a sudden desire to end things once and for all. And if his premonition was absolute enough to be entirely certain that Mace wouldn't do this, then he never would have died in Episode 6.
