In the end, the marginal (at best) advantages that faking could present to Palpatine do NOT outweigh the dangers to which he would have exposed himself in the process.
And if he was so powerful that he could kill the strongest Jedi duelist without even trying--so strong that he could dick around the entire time and play games--then why would he even need Anakin in the first place? So that he could have *fun* spending the next 25 years looking over his shoulder wondering when he was going to get assassinated?
He wouldn't live forever... you want someone stronger or at least as strong as you to continue your rule of the galaxy...he said the 'sith will rule the galaxy once more' not "I will rule the galaxy for the next 10000 years!".
Good point though, why have someone who can own you hanging around you all the time ( if he didnt have the suit that is ).
All right people let's get every single thing we saw in the move straight before we jump to conclusions.
1. Sidious was trying to run away from the fight at the very beginning of the fight. Thus the line said by Yoda "If so powerful you are, why leave?"
2. Yoda was clearly better with a lightsaber. Notice how Sidious had to keep some distance away from him? If he was so much better in every aspect, then why didn't he slice and dice him at the very beginning of the fight? I'm sure Sidious was very eager to have Yoda killed.
3. Yoda could counter every force power Sidious threw at him. When Sidious threw pods at him, Yoda dodged some, and caught and threw one right back at him. Yoda could also catch Sidious's lightning. Did you see the look on Sidious's face when Yoda was able to throw the pod back and when Yoda caught Sidious's lightning? He was clearly very astounded and not to mention somewhat frightened.
4. When the ball of lightning exploded, Yoda had the worse of the fall. He fell way down to the bottom of the chamber. There was no way he could get back into the fight. He probably already knows Sidious called a bunch of stormtroopers already. There was no way Yoda could get back into the fight. He was simply too far down to get back in.
All of the points above prove that Yoda is AT LEAST as powerful as Sidious, possibly even more powerful. I really don't get how so many of you think Sidious is sooo much more powerful than Yoda, cause that clearly wasn't what I saw.
He was toying with mace, perhaps mace got the best of him at ONE point but sidious was baiting anakin the rest of the way, sidious had another lightsaber up his sleeve obviously cause you can't make on that quickly when you're declaring yourself emperor and conferring with your new apprentice the whole time.
Point being, Mace got lucky or perhaps caught Sidious off guard for a moment, but yoda is stronger than both of them.

Windo owned palps, and he was trying his best. He only started baiting anakin after he was dumped on his ass with a saber in his face. Palps lost, straight up.
Yoda also won his fight. He was far superior in saber fighting, and he took palps best force powers and tossed them right back. It was just a bad break that when he tossed the lightning back at palps, Yoda took the worse fall. He wasen't hurt at all. He just fell too far down the chamber to get back into the fight. But make no mistake, Yoda won that fight. They both lived, but Yoda got the better of palps. He clearly proved that there is NO WAY IN HELL palps could ever kill Yoda. He did all he could, in a perfect arena for palps, and he still couldn't hit the little green monster. Yoda rocks palps.
However, one thing I have to point out. Windu owned Palps a lot easier then Yoda did. But that is because of his Vapaad style. Don't be fooled into thinking that just because he did better vs palps then yoda did, that he would also beat yoda. No chance. Yoda is a pure Jedi. Mace's Vapaad would be useless vs Yoda. If those two were to fight, Yoda is faster and better with a saber, and he is more powerful with the force. Hands down, Yoda owns him. The only thing Windu is better at then Yoda, is fighting dark jedi, or siths. In that case, Windu is stronger. But yoda vs windu... yoda owns him 🙂
