It was only sheer luck (good or bad) that she was out there on leave. They can't have planned for that. If they have an agenda, picking off Jedi when they happen to enter the area isn't it- even though it is clear that they aren't scared of taking them on!

The Cult are trying to do something and this attack was something to do with that.

Are they trying to push into the Republic?

For all their strength they are but one world. If they actually invaded... well, this isn't like the Feds. No-one is going to make a legal argument for them. Inefficient though the Republic is, that's too far; SOMEONE would destroy them. The Jedi would certainly go in hardcore.

Marcus dealt with Sareena's trail, but they did not attack with the intent of killing/capturing her, as you say. Perhaps they attacked to wipe out the passengers, but they do that anyway, so I'm discrediting that...

One of us, not me, investigated the cargo hold. They removed a bunch of agricultural equipment. Could it have to do with the gumf they stole?

There is certainly no evidence they either knew she was on board, or were looking for her. Marcus found she went out to attack them whilst they were doing whatever they were here for.

Well, aside from the slaughter, the cargo hold is all they did here.

So, there motive had something to do with the equipment, then?

That's the only motive they have ever had, for sure.

You know, it doesn't seem like they were at all surprised by the bulkheads...they had that cutting thing, in any case. Did they attack just to spite the new trick against them and get parts at the same time?

I need to hammer in the point that the Cult are REALLY not like that. They are not interested in spite- in fact, they dislike emotion. They are intensly practical; the reason they slaughter people is for efficiency- it's cleaner that way and they don't care about life. But they have nothing to gain simply from death.

Consider it hammered.

They are picking up the attack rate, perhaps they are trying to get as many targets as possible.

Yup, but unless you can find out why, that's no good.
