Because he likes making things like that, or likes getting a thanks. Look today I spent hours talking to my friends because they had a few problems. I stopped drinking yesterday because of that. I helped them because I talked to them. Did I do that for them? Yes. Did I do that for me? Yes. If I would have just continued as if nothing was wrong and would have gotten more drunk and then would have went home and would have fallen asleep I would feel bad about it right now.
I did it for myself, helping others makes me happy. It makes me feel good. Thats the entire idea behind it, you wouldn't do it if you didn't get something out of it.
feeling good is a side affect... you don't do it to FEEL good you do it well at least i do it intending to do it for them for nothing in return...and if i recieve something ok fine if i don't ok fine it doesn't make a difference to me but i don't do good deeds so i can feel good, i do it for them, feeling good just happens i don't intended to feel good about doing those things nor do i expect to feel good about it...it's a feeling it just comes, it's not like i want the feeling to be there, i really can't help what i feel, but i can help what i do for others, and that's why i do it...not for me but for them...

It upsets you. The keyword here You you did it to make yourself feel better to stop something that makes you feel bad, you did it all for you. Helping other people as a result is a nice extra.
