Is religion not a collection of thoughts and ideas? If not, what is it?

Some would argue its a "Search", others a "belief".

others a "need" and others still simply "who they are".

Religion involves many thoughts and ideas. But it also involves a faith. If you're using the ideology of the Nazi's and the ideology of the Jews then you're going to crash the argument. Because then you're giving the Nazi's ideology an excuse for their actions. Why? because they're doing what they consider is right.

The worrying thing is I tried to explain this to her early in the thread

Yes, religion is.

Islam = religion.

Muslim = follower of Islam.

A Muslim is a person.

Captain obvious to the rescue!

And?

It is, but I think the problem stems from the generalization you seemed to make of Ideology = bad, which isn't the case.

Hmm, point was missunderstood or rather poorly explained on my part.

Its not the ideology that needs saving from people, its other way around. By that I mean, its not that people corrupt ideology, but rather that ideology corrupts people. Hence the examples above.

I never meant to say the whole thing was wrong - but parts are, and its not the peoples fault (they are not the bad horrible ones), but ideological - they only follow it and are influenced by it.

And you decide which part of someones faith is right or wrong? Thats a crooked ideolgy imo

Yes, it should be obvious. I don't understand why you don't get it.

Muslims are being generalized here. Not the Religion or ideology, but the people.

Badmouthing an entire group of people because of a few in that group is a bad thing.

I think she means that there is a percentage of followers who mis-interpret the ideology.

Where did I say anything about Muslims. Quote me. Where did I generalise Muslims.

Please show the quote.

I did not say that YOU generalize Muslims, now did I? But it is happening in this forum and you said it was okay. I think you might have misunderstood what Whirly was asking because of what you said in this quote

Whos talking about putting anyone down? Is that what people do these days?
,

but here is the quote where you said it was okay :

Yes - i believe the comments are ok. I feel free to critisize religion, its something chosen, while place of birth and colour are not.

Nearly every one of your posts are dealing with ideology.
My point is that Muslims are people not Religions or ideologies.

Why do you critisize Christians?

Religions are ideologies.

Same thing here. Christians are people, not the religion itself.

Religion (or any other ideology) is something religious people DO, not what they ARE.

Black people are something those people ARE not something they DO.

You DO (practice) religion. You dont practice being black. You ARE black. Thats the end of it.

Here again, you don't seem to understand the difference btwn religion and a follower of religion. (Islam, Muslim for example.)

When someone is generalizing, they are talking about PEOPLE, not the religion. Note: I did not say that you were generalizing.

I think you are trying to say the same thing as everyone else, but when you kept using the term ideology it confused me and everyone else.

And that is why I said this:

Yes, religion is.

Islam = religion.

Muslim = follower of Islam.

A Muslim is a person

Be sure to follow all my replies before you reply to me. What you quoted had nothing to do with the origianl post, as I explained - i was making sure there is a differance between colour of skin and religion.

And as someone who is doing a degree in social sciences and who has read both Quran and Bible (Torah is been read and translated to me as i dont speak Hebrew), its a little far fetched for you to tell me I dont know the difference between religion and peoeple.

Thats absolutely ridiculous and for one shows that you didnt bother reading everything I wrote.

I have a degree in molecular biology and post graduate degrees in Science, I still feel others less educated in my subject might have a point to make in a discussion on it.

It can´t be racist because "Muslim" isn´t a race but a religion. All sorts of people are Muslims, whites as well.

Is there a word for "Anti Muslim" like Anti semetic is for people who dislike Jews?

Not suprising that people are becoming less tolerant towards Muslims. At the moment thier extremists the only ones which participate in terrorist acts, and they don´t care who they kill even fellow muslims.

You tar everyone with the same brush

"racism" can also be against a religious group
Some people on here don't believe we have different race but we are all of the "race" of man.

i wonder how good the world would be if religions never existed?
