Deano said it all. Everyone makes fun of the French. And to substantiate their stuck up attitude, there was a survey reported on the news yesterday, saying that about 70% of French men and about almost half of the French women think they're sexy and attractive. Apparently that's before anyone gets a whiff of them after they've been wearing the same perfumed handkerchiefor a year or so... 😄

Yes true many people in Toronto think French Canada is weird

There was a write up in the paper some years ago that stated that Montreal wanted to recede from Canada... Don't know if they were serious or not...We call Montreal French Land here...Even friends I know in Southern Ontario make fun of them saying "It's an amusement Park...go pay admission to French Land and watch everyone trying to be French"....I've heard that even if they know English...they won't speak it to you knowing you don't speak French....But personally I don't know anyone French...Just southern French Canadians....and Dutch Canadians...

True there was an armed insurrection in Montreal back in the 70d's over separation. Quebec wanted to seperate from Canada.
The prime minister at that time Trudeau invoked the war measures act to stop it. Meaning he temporary suspended the rights of Canadians to go after them. However he was still a good prime minister and the best since Laurier.

Well no matter what we feel about each other or why, just remember that when an enemy lands in America, they also land in Canda's backyard as well because those backyards are connected.

To that end, the day it does happen (and I pray to God it's an IF and not a when) I hope that we can work together to defend our collective lands and realize how much we have in common with each other instead of how much we don't. Sound like a plan, eh? 😉

Meh, I love the French, and I love Quebec, I've been there a few times. Montreal itself is very similar to Toronto though.

And Quebec most recently tried to separate in 1995, The Quebec Referendum, and the vote was only barely 51 to 49 percent in favour of staying in Canada. It was extremely close, in the decimal range even, not fully 51 percent. If they had separated, we'd have crushed them evillaugh

Regarding Americans "dissing " Canadians, this is almost accepted because Americans will snicker or denigrate someone or something they do not understand. Take for example the word " Canuck". This is in reference to a group of people, descending from a combination of French, Indian and Spanish heritages, who migrated to the Northwest through the Northwest passage and traveled to the bayous of Louisiana around the base of The Mississippi. A lot of their background is instilled in their music and cooking. One could taste their heritage when one eats a bowl of jambalya(sic) or listens to a form of music called " zydeco".

Secondly, many years ago, there existed a Canadian liberal party whose main leader, a guy by the name of Rene Levesque, wanted the province of Quebec to seperate from the territory of Canada and become the Fifty-First State in the U. S. with its own government and laws and constitution, thus calling the party ' La Partite Sepratiste'. Many of its members, who were French Canadians, did not like the fact that much of their taxes were going to a government that still recognized the crown of Great Britain as its sovereign and that they were ruled with laws by fiat from Ottawa through the British crown .

Thirdly, there exists a National Hockey League team called " the Vancouver Canucks" . This is the nickname of the team which is reference to the people that I had mentioned in the first paragragh and the one of the largest Canadian, cosmopolitan city in that region.

In the first example you listed, I believe you mean Cajun and not Canuck 😕

I got ya back man, I gots love for my Canadian neighbors.

well, i thought that the cartoon south park got it started, but now i dont think that way anymore. really, i don't get it. some boys were singing it on my bus a year ago and i asked them 'why canada' and they said 'because it's just fun'. so i really couldn't answer your question. personally, i have no problem with canadians. but some people prefer to be immature over being nice.

Same here. It's a cool place and I just wish there was some mutual admiration, and I wish everyone in Canada (and the rest of the world) would just STOP throwing George Dubya Bush in our faces 24\7. Like most other countries, Canada dosen't seem to realize that people and politicians are separate entities.

We've been kicked around enough, and to a degree it seems as if it's OK for other countries to bash the hell out of us but when we defend ourselves and talk back, people continue to twist our words more. Like it or not, we ARE your neighbor, and if you needed help you would GET it. I can't see where we've really done anything that bad to Canada.

You fought your revolution on our soil for one 😛 and don't even get me started on taxation ❌

Yeah and you guys used the Indians to fight your Fur Trade war to spite the British, AND caused it to spill over onto North American soil in the upstate New York Area. French and Indian war, anyone?

And it wasn't "your' soil. The American Indian owned it all, and we ALL took part in that deal that led to the taking of all they owned, so let's be honest. YOU didn't own it, the American Indians of the Algonquin and Iroquois nations owned it. And we ALL asked for an inch, and wound up taking miles.

Just remember this too-YOU guys could have been under British rule too if noone had stood up and did somehting. Taxes? You bet, YOU'D have paid them too just as we were doing. 😉

Yes, If Canada would need our help of course we'd be there...no doubt..They are our friends from the Great White North......

I'd be there to fight Cana-- er, fight for Canada.

In reply to Silver Tears, I am in need of correction. True, the correct group of peoples to whom I was refering were the Acadians and they were forcebly removed from Nova Scotia by the British crown in 1755, to which thousands of their homes were torched and many thousands died of disease and drownings from shipwrecks. These people were the ones who traveled south to Louisiana and their heritage is a mixture of American Indian, Basques from the Basque area of Spain, Scotch, Irish, German, English and French.

Being part Canadian, I have this to say.

To continue the topic, Americans make fun of France quite a bit, whether it be in every day life, or on shows like the Simpsons or Family Guy.

Kinda ironic seeing as how 2/3rds of the soldiers at the battle of Yorktown-the battle that ended the Revolutionary War-were French.

That is so yesterday, gimme a new gimmick. Perhaps one that makes me give a shit.

Its proabably a nieghbour thing, although I get the impression most Yanks have no respect for any other country, after all everything is bigger and better in the US. The US is the center of the universe etc.
