his dad was a shinigami his mother was human... what's all the fuss about?

I somewhat question that. Rukia's shikai is just one big contradiction IMO. I could understand if she got in a way similar to how Renji got his bankai: through year on years of training before and after SS arcs. However seeing as how she's had it for decades and is seated if not lieutenant material, its a real mystery why she got beat up by an uber weak hollow.

Really, she turned her back and should've creamed it. Rukia just got super-unlucky/distracted because of Ichigo (how Aizen could've planned for that, I have no idea. Since he was counting on it, perhaps he sabotaged her mission in some way, maybe poison?). Ever since she got her powers back she's been consistently fairly powerful.

I have a personal theory that the reason 13th has no lieutenant is Ukitake is saving the spot until Byakuya gives his ok.

Cause we still don't know what the rest of the statement is.

I did a search on the internet and it would appear that I'm far from the only person that doesn't just assume that that is what Aizen meant and what Ichigo understood.

It's still not definitive what Aizen was referring to. We cannot conclude that he meant Shinigami.

That doesn't make much sense since Rukia new that Ichigo would absorb her Shinigami powers just by stabbing him....that means anyone "sensitive" could become a shinigami.

What does Ichigo being half Shinigami have to do with anything? How does that wrap up the story better than other explanations?

he absorbed Rukia's powers which jump started his own

but yeah, it would be too obvious if he was gonna say shinigami, i guess we'll wait and see, for now it will just be one of my many crazy theories

Yup, but, Rukia had no way of knowing that it would fail or whatnot...she just assumed it would work sense Ichigo was a "force sensitive"*. Since Rukia knew it would work, there's no reason to believe that Ichigo was any different than any other person that was a "force sensitive". That's my logic...there was nothing extremely unusual about Ichigo about Rukia's knowing that she could give away her powers, temporarily...the special part came in when Ichigo went to town on her powers and took almost every last drop...which would be the difference.

I tend to agree that there's something funky going on there. It very well could be that Aizen was going to say Shinigami. In fact, it seems that that is the most probable answer, but, "hollow" is a very close second.

*That's the best I can describe it, man. 😆

That's what I'm still having a problem with. Rukia just became powerful pretty much out of nowhere. One moment she was just an ordinary shinigami going on a mission and the next she's a potential seated officer that was given low-grade missions and has the power to take out opponents that Ichigo would spam his bankai on.

However I wonder what Isshin's shikai would be or would he even need to use his shikai since he appears to be doing just fine.

I didn't get that. I still see it as a blank.

It's still not clear that it is human and shinigami.

For starters:

When Aizen first used the statement, he said "You're a Shinigami and a..."
The second time we see the statement, Aizen is saying "You're a Human and a..."
Ichigo then goes on to ponder what Aizen said, and then he realizes that the answer appears in front of him (his dad)...in other words 'Shinigami'.
It would make no sense for it to be Shinigami and Shinigami (as that wouldn't be 'special' to Aizen), which should leave Aizen's statement in 398 as the correct version.

Now, it's pretty clear from the first two pages that he's at least a Human-Shinigami hybrid. I mean, c'mon, how many other Human-Shinigami hybrids do you know of in Bleach? It might not seem like much of deal at first, but when you look at the fact that there aren't other hybrids like Ichigo (apart from his siblings who don't have Shinigami powers), it becomes much more important.

Human-Hollow is out of the question, as Isshin is a Shinigami.
Hollow-Shinigami is also out of the question IMO, as Ichigo spent most of his life as a human, and the statement in 398 includes 'Human'..
Human-Shinigami is the one that, for now, seems to be correct.

* Human-Hollow-Shinigami (Human-Vizard) is the only other combination that is possible, if Isshin had somehow obtained Hollow powers prior to his defection from SS. Granted, this combination would be much more beneficial to Aizen than a Human-Shinigami hybrid, so it's possible that Ichigo might infact have been a Human-Vizard from the start.

Of course, it could also be that Kubo is trolling the **** out of us by having Ichigo muddle up Aizen's words 😐, but that's unlikely.

I hope Ichigo is a Human-Vizard.
I actually want Isshin to have hollow powers. If he can b****-slap Aizen with a finger, I want to see what someone as badass as him could do with a Hollow Mask.

Okay, cool. That all makes sense.

I still don't know for certain, but I'll go with what you said as you have a very nice logical structure and evidence for it.

And, you're right, Kubo could have just ****ed up and ended up making Ichigo's words come out wrong. It'd be quite shitty that we didn't learn anything new at all from Aizen's revelation: we already knew Isshin was a captain level Shinigami....

It would be disappointing if that was the only "new" thing about that chapter....cause it wouldn't be "new", then. 🙁

But, anyway, thanks man, for explaining that to me. I appreciate it.

😆

Nevah doubt when I'm about!

I play devil's advocate a lot just for the sake of making things as logical or no-nonsense as possible.

Muchas Gracias amigos.

We still got to see Isshin supposedly punk Aizen by giving him the finger. Someone badass like that having hollow powers would be epic.

A 13 km stretch 😐. *inb4penejokes*

Funnily, I seem to recall Isshin's comment about captains swinging swords the size of skyscrapers, but Gin's is just an extra long Shinsou. Seriously, I hope it has other abilities.

Wow Gin's bankai is the lamest piece of baloney i've ever seen in this manga, seriously I could not have thought of something more lackluster and retarded if i'd tried.

Kubo: Hmm, Gin's bankai. Oh curse the fact that he appeared before I decided to give Shikais interesting abilities. His shikai is a really long sword, how can I expand on that to give him a cool bankai?

Assistant: How about a really, REALLY long sword?

Kubo: Brilliance! It adds nothing of interest while being bizarrely predictable... sounds like a winner to me.

Made only worse by the fact that maskless-Ichigo was able to stop it with his sword. Trust Kubo to **** up cool characters.

Assistant: Why not further humiliate Gin by making his really, REALLY long sword really, REALLY easy to block?

Kubo: Even better. I'll show it cutting buildings just to make it cooler.

The only thing good about Gin's bankai so far is the name 😐. Hope he's pulling a Yammy on us, by not revealing everything there is about Gin's Bankai.

~ This is easily one of the worst chapters I've seen in a while. Going from one of the best to one of the worst is such a shame.

I didn't care that Ichigo blocked it. After all, he has a really good point... why shouldn't a bankai be able to block another bankai. I mean it wasn't that long ago that he beat Byakuya with Bankai, and Kenpachi with Shikai. So it's kind of like a reverse power creep. It reminds us that Vizard-less Ichigo isn't a wimp, which recent chapters definitely have made it seem like.

I didn't just read that did I? Did anyone else read the same chapter as me? I just saw the lamest of lamest things ever! Does Tite just not like Gin or what?

Here's a thought. What if Gin's bankai was like Yumichika's shikai in the sense that it could become something very cool if Gin wanted to...or at least have a lazer shooting sword or something.

I knew this forum should've had a prayer service for Gin I just knew it!

I kinda doubt Gin would unleash his bankai only to start getting beaten that easily. Gin's got something else up his sleeve. I can feel it.

He'll probably go vizard like Tousen or something. But I don't see much hope for his Bankai.

I think the reasoning for Gin's absurdly lame bankai is that Tite needs to kill off the remaining antagonists so he can focus all of his (somewhat) writing creativity on Aizen. In short, Tite probably just wants Gin gone so he can do further exploring into Aizen's goals.

I just want to clear something up but can we all agree that Gin's bankai is worse than Soi-fon's.
