The Official BLEACH series Thread

Him owning them all right away as soon as he got his powers back would be the most retarded thing imaginable to happen from a story-perspective. It would be like if Batman took the Joker out in a single punch at the end of the Dark Knight. No wait, half-way through the Dark knight. You don't ramp up the tension and drama in the story and suddenly stamp on the brakes like that. The audience gets metaphorical whiplash and it makes the previous scenes seem like a ****ing joke.

Look at One Piece and how bad it is right now because of the piss-poor villians. If you don't take your villians seriously in a story then how can the audience? Especially given that the villians are arguably the most important aspect of the plot in these cases (shounen, action stories).

I agree, but only a little. He'd have to preface it with a monologue...then some empty threats about them killing his family.

Then Ichigo killing or incapacitating them all in a flash. Then a typical shonen one-liner like, "This is the power of a true shinigami. You'd do well to remember that."

Well, it would be more like having a 2 hour movie and Batman is about to die..then, bam, he gets all of his energy back and all his wounds are healed. Then he takes out the joker in one punch.

Lemme expand on that:

Instead of the two dogs and night stick beat down he got with an eventual but hard fought victory...he just gets beat down and is laying on the ground about to bleed to death and die...then Fox (Freeman's character) flips a switch that remotely heals Batman, restores all of his energy, and gives him immense superhuman powers...all at once.

Then he gets up, one shots Joker and turns him over to the police...then flies in the Batwing to Dent's location...jumps out of the Batwing...and lands right on Harvey's face with his bat-boot. Then it's done.

Instead, what we're getting in Bleach is the entire dark knight movie withOUT the victory from Batman (yet) BUT with the superpowers bump that I suggested...and the movie is going to last another 2 to 3 hours long.

haermm Dude, that would have sucked balls.

Listen, theres a reason Deus ex Machina's are not held as being very good story telling. Nothings earned and they cheapen a story as a whole.

I thought that this was going to be a mini-arc and it wasn't going to last very long. Meaning...as soon as Ichigo go his powers back...bam...the arc is over and the "mysterious" attacker is quickly taken out.

When that didn't happen...and we didn't move on to the REAL arc...

I was disappoint.

The problem here is it seems to be setting up that thing where the characters go through a time skip and now need something to beat up to make them look good. The problem is, Kubo is using all the villains of this arc, meaning every one of them will die and make their appearance pointless.

With some characters, I can legitimately see the reasoning. Rukia has gone up in rank, she might be stronger now than before. She needs a good opponent(one of the villains is fine) to showcase how strong she has gotten.

But characters like Kenpachi, whose attacks equal a grand total of 1(Cut shit), you don't need to show anything! We know he is strong! You don't need a character to show that! If you want to give fanservice, make him fight some mooks! Not the villain with one of the most haxxed and interesting powers. You shitty ass writer.

Introducing new villains is fine. They're allowed to kick ass because they need to be established as threats. Fair enough, everyone does that. I don't care. But when you introduce villains just so they can have their asses beaten up by the heroes so they can show off, you're just boring the audience! Take DBZ. Simple ass writing.

Zarbon: Kicks Vegeta's ass.
Ginyu force: Kicks Vegeta, Gohan, and Krillins asses. (Even that could have been better handled)
Frieza: He beat up everything.
Androids: Beat up 2 SSJ and others.
Cell: Fought Piccolo to a tie(A good example to show off two badasses while keeping both credible in the eyes of the audience) before kicking Android ass.
Buu: Nuked the planet.

It's not that freaking hard to introduce badass and then let heroes come save the day and win. But that isn't what is happening here. We've barely seen the fullbringers in action, but we know the Shinigami are gonna win so they don't matter.

Up until Ichigo got his powers back this was the best arc Bleach had done for a good couple hundred chapters. So wha?

But, see, I don't see that as a problem. Ichigo got mind-f*cked and raged harder than he's ever raged. He was already pushed against the wall enough. The arc lasted a bit longer...up until that point...than I expected. I thought it would ended sooner. So as soon as he got his powers back, I was like, "Finally, we can end this and move on to the real plot that has been hinted at."

But that didn't happen.

I WANT to see my badass main character kick everyone's asses every now and then. Especially if he lost his powers for 18 months and get f*cked with more than he's even been f*cked with...by a smug prick, to top it off.

You don't need cookie cutter action every single arc: sometimes, it's okay and even awesome if you have you main character just kick ass.

It was a nice relief to see Kenpachi literally one shot that one dude. I did not want to see another CIS/PIS fight with Kenpachi take place.

But you watch. You watch...the time guy reverses time and he's healed again. You know, typical Kubo "stretch it out" fashion.

You wanna know why everyone thinks Trunks is so awesome?

It's cause he came from the future and wiped the mother ****in' floor with Frieza, his father, and the goons. There's nothing wrong with having your characters be badass...especially after they've been mind ****ed for several chapters.

Edit - The main character in Beelzebub kicks major ass every other fight...and it's awesome. I love it. He's also quite nonchalant about it, too...which makes it even more awesome. The son of Satan thinks the main character is so badass that he treats him like his father. How could that not be badass? It works in other shonen manga...so why can it not work in this one?

Also, in The Breaker, the main sensei dude (the main character's sensei) is so badass that he can almost take on the entire martial arts world, at once...with a broken arm..and win. His final fight against the whole martial arts world was super kick ass. It reminded me of Guts back in the day when Berserk was super awesome to read. How DOESN'T want the main character badass to kick major ass sometimes? Like I said, the same old cookie cutter story found in every shonen manga is not necessary, sometimes. Sometimes...it's much cooler if you have your main character just kick some major ass.

All I got from your post is that you for some reason think a dickhead like Trunks is awesome.

Hahaha.

The reason, for me anyway, the Trunks killing Frieza scenario was because 1. Trunks came out of nowhere. No idea who he was. We knew he was a Super Saiyan and had a sword, nothing else. And 2. Because it works in a way to introduce the new threats. Trunks is terrified of the Androids, and this is the guy who killed Frieza! That builds tension, that lets the audience know that shit is about to go down(and it did.)

I personally find the person touted as "TEH STRONGEST BEING IN TEH OONIVERSE!!!" becoming fodder stupid, but then, it couldn't be helped.

DBZ should have ended with the Freeza saga.

Check the verbage again: I purposefully distanced myself from being a Trunks fanboy.

I'm awesome like that.

And that formula could have easily been applied to this current arc.

"Ginjo wasn't the real enemy, Ichigo. He was just the pawn. It was X who attacked the Quincy."

Dun dun duuuuunnnn.

To be fair, Freeza was kind of fear struck when Trunks went SSJ so he wasn't going full power. And unlike Goku, Trunks really wasn't wanting to keep the fight going for his entertainment.

I dunno. It was the best saga from a written perspective I guess, but I love DBZ. So the more of it, the better for me.

Well since this series as a whole hasn't really had tension since the SS arc...I mean Hiyori was sliced in half, Hinamori stabbed in the heart, and Rukia impaled with a trident..all lived.

On top of that the readers kind of knew they were going to live. So Kubo throwing that potential golden goose out the window we get stull like this instead.

Oh...and glad to see Bleach is back. The one I loved to rage at. 🙁

What is this mystical "tension" in the older chapters that people are referring to? Bleach has never had tension. Even from the beginning of the series, to the very start where we first saw someone get really messed up( Byakuya and Ikaku ****ing up Ishida), no semi-good guys have ever been killed. We've always known that Ichigo is basically unkillable, and if you think about it, the manga really has just been repeating itself since like, Ichigo's defeating of Renji (pretty much the first time Ichigo spent half the fight getting his ass kicked, only to randomly power up and annihilate someone).

So honestly I dunno what you guys are talking about. Kubo's formula hasn't changed since day 1.

Early on we didn't *know* all good people were unkillable, though. Or just what lengths everyone could be subjected to without dying.

That became pretty evident long before the SS arc ended, though.

Blax, stop trolling.

How am I trolling? Ya douche.

We knew that the main ones wouldn't die. But there weren't many minor characters at risk during the the SS arc anyway, just Ganju and Hanataro.

A whole SS vs Espada fight seemed like it'd be a time when some of the more minor reapers would die, though.
