I was kinda surprised people thought Byakuya was really dead before. They pronounce death *easily* in bleach.

Well at least in this chapter he says that he's not going to last long. So unless Unohana, I don't know, does her fvcking job and heals him, he's probably about to die.

Yes? The hilt is the same and we can't see his blade in this chapter cuz he's holding it sideways.

Probably because he's been going ballistic with Getsuga Tensho's in that cage. Hes probably been hit by the backlash of his own attacks. Also, recall that his clothes represent his current state. Maybe they're so torn up because he expended so much energy to escape that cage.

At best the hilt's guards are thinner and appear elongated, but I chalk that to art. No difference there, certainly not one as drastic as the one he had after achieving Jinzen and fusing his hollow and Shinigami powers completely.
The blade itself may have changed, but it is too far away too make out. From the pic you posted though, you can't tell, as Ichigo is holding it longitudinally to us.

As for his shihakusho being tattered, lulz.
