Silly comment from EsteemedLeader notwithstanding and making clear I am in full awareness of the tragedy of the people of New Orleans and others struck by the Hurricane -
I'm just wondering if the people constantly updating and showing how much they care about the Hurricane victims know about and/or give a rat's ass about the fact that more than 30-40,000 children under the age of 5 die from preventable causes in developing countries every day.

I made this point in another thread. Donate your money to a better cause people, one that can be prevented in the future...

that's cold...
This is so sad... but what's even more sad is our president's *shutter* response to it. The lack of direction and timeliness for a rescue effort WAS racially motivated. If this happened in Road Island, the national guard would have been there before the hurricane was over.
So the the one in charge of the military effort is black. Who cares! If Bush snaps his well manicured and moisturized fingers, everybody jumps. He just sat back and folded his arms and shook his head. It's his fault the people of New Orleans suffered longer than they had too without relief.
... But, this is America. It seems we'll stay racist forever as long as the American citizens keep their head in the clouds and think everything is honkey-dory. Underlying feelings of superiority over minorities (mainly at the highest level of government and business) are alive and rampant.
Bush is a full of sh!t racist and a moron!
... The footage of him comforting the two black teen girls in the wake of the destruction made me sick. He doesn't care! It's all for the cameras. But then again, what in this American government isn't?
... prayers to the people of New Orleans.

Um, flawed logic. If they were there, wouldn't the hurricane have killed them too? I mean, duh, let's use our heads people!
Since you're new, I'll explain myself...
Me saying that the national guard would be there before the hurricane was over is a slight exaggeration to drive home my point. However, it is only slight. The government would have been planning from the time the first house blew over. Hell, they might have even started to plan when they got the satellite pictures of the hurricane, the night before.
Our government cares more about rich people than poor.
Our government cares more about white people than minorities.

Maybe it's different in your country but government spending here goes into public health services, a public education system etc. You know things those "poor people" whom you care about need.
My beef is not so much with the system as the people running it.
