No problem. I wish I were around back when you guys had some super long thread about whether Magneto is the most powerful mutant. That was how I found the board. I was doing some research, because I'm a research geek, when I stumbled upon this site a few days ago. I could have made a pretty good case for Magneto, even though I'll admit that he's below Uber Cable and Franklin. Of course, as it stands today, he would be the most powerful mutant because Cable lost that power and will probably never have it again and Franklin's superpowers were removed.
As far as most powerful beings on the planet go:
He's below Sentry (along with everybody else, apparently)
He's below Molecule Man, though there were some interesting points made on that thread about how Magneto could undermine MM's control of molecules. That's theoretically true, but Magneto isn't adept enough at atomic control. MM has natural control over molecules and can do it faster than Magneto can counter it. It would sort of be like a telekinetic imitating magnetism - you could do the same things, but it wouldn't come as easily.
He's below Prime Eternal Ikaris, who is SUPPOSED to be skyfather level (doesn't act like it)
And I may be missing one or two others. But he's almost certainly top five, among recurring Marvel earth-based characters (there are always reality manipulators popping up for certain storylines, like in District X, but they don't count because they're just plot devices, lol)
"Cool. I'm kinda a geek when it comes to that. Not everybody does that. I'm also a physicsphile, so that's why I gravitate (no pun intended) to characters like Magneto, whose powers are based on physics."
I think Magneto has a great ability. I've never been fond of X-Men villains though to be honest. Nothing against them, just don't really appeal to my likings. I like Polaris and Magneto, think they have awesome powers. Magneto is extremely powerful, never doubted that he wasn't. I don't think he's some top 5 on Earth unless he consistently proves to be as great. Franklin Richards will probably be my top when he (when Marvel make him...) becomes older.
Why are all of you still going around saying "He'll shove an iron rod in his mouth"? Actually ruin things. Demi comes in, gives me exactly what I was looking for in a debate, then you jump in and fake it up. It's not gonna happen like that so drop the theory.

Yeah one of Magneto's problems has been that he's been a bit overused. I think when you overuse a villain, and you know that villain has to lose in the end, that people start losing respect for that villain. Becaue if he's so good, then, damn, why's he lose every time? Of course, the real answer is because he's the villain, but in the MU, it's because he's just not good enough. That's why people have more respect on battle boards for characters like Apocalypse, who has made far fewer appearances, and thus, fewer opportunities to embarass himself with losses to people like Spider-Man and Squirrel Girl, lol.
I'd like to see Magneto used less, and when he is used, to be shown to be the absolute powerhouse he is.
BTW - who's your top five on Earth, out of curiousity?
magnesium, lol. I don't think Magneto would use a multi-vitamin against the Hulk.
(are most of the responses on these 53 pages like this?)
Anyway, I'm posting because I got e-mail back from a friend of mine. Here's what he wrote:

sup. anyways yeah i remember what your talking about. i think it was defenders 15 or 16. its the same issue where mags turns into a baby. prof x gets the defenders to fight mags. he fights strange to a draw and drains hulk and all that. mad old so i think its out of print.
--------------------------------
So maybe they have an Essential Defenders where they have those issues collected. Not sure, but that's what he says. Thank goodness I didn't spend too much time digging through my collection, I don't think I own any Defenders comics anymore.

By killing Poccy in AOA he showed that he's able to wield EM energy at a molecular level, tearing Apocalypse apart molecularly and overriding Poccy's power to control his own molecules in the process.
Y'know, I assumed that was Magneto ripping open Apocalypse's metallic suit and letting his piss poor body just dissolve.
The thing about Magneto is they like to have him do something really cool then somebody with a science background will come along and inform people that doing that would of taken the energy of 30 suns made of smashed pre-crisis Supermen. Then it just takes off.
Magneto can keep Hulk busy using his control over metals throwing him and blocking him under tons, tons and tons of metals, what about something like 100 hundred buildings over the Hulk?It would made him sufficiently busy to grant Magneto the chance to localize adamantium, like those in the special prisons of U.S.A government used to keep blocked Alkhema or the adamantium is the Weapon X terrestrial base.
And after that?A spear of adamantium pass through Hulk's brain and heart at mach 10, bye bye Hulk.
Another way?Magneto can magnetically pull into Hulk's mouth a piece of titanium or steel and move it to Hulk's brain, a piece of metal that pierce a brain, even the brain of Hulk would mean troubles no?
you think up the wierdest shit ever lol, moving a piece of metal through hulks mouth and towards his brain? his brain tissue would/should be as strong as his skin tissue, and why the hell would hulk let magneto forecefully shove a piece of metal in his mouth? its the hulk, you cant forecefully make him do anything

Ripping open ghetto celestrial tech should be a credit in itself but with all of Magneto's other overpowered credentials, it's not.
...hmmmm, overpowered indeed [sarcasm]
