I don't think so..actually..well, there are very different songs...I think some are totally weird, while some as you said are very straightforward (actually more, you are right)

Let e show you what I mean:

Weird Lyrics:
Bigmouth Strikes Again
A Rush and A Push and the Land is ours
Some Girls are Bigger than Others
Panic
Asleep

Straightforward:
Girlfriend in a Coma
Ask
Money Changes Everything
Sweet and Tender Hooligan

By the way I added a Joke...see if you can catch it. (I am not that aware of his solo works so I can't say much aboot that, but You are right I was somehow only thinking of the well..at least to me Strange lyrics)

I agree that it is one aspect of good lyrics that they are open for interpretation. That might actually a thing that Bob Dylan doesn't have..althoguh I guess that was another time back then.

Definitely check out his solo stuff, it's very good. Just don't expect The Smiths, because that's not what it is.

i guess what made him, as you ever so rightly, and correctly, say, overrated is that so many people did agree with the political message he had.

Who would that lyricist be you are refering to?

Yeah, it may be because of the politics.

Joni Mitchell is the lyricist.

Oh yeah. I still have to listen to anything by her.

I even got a few CDs from a friend..I just didn't come around to listen to it much. He has some good songs though.

Might be an unnecessary bump, but well it is quite boring tonight and the Thread, as stated by other people before has potential.

Just on Morrissey's Solo stuff, I actually find some of his stuff very close to The Smiths, others not, but definitely worth checking out, as you said. I have to admit though that I didn't listen to the lyrics that much...just the music in general.

His lyrical style is more or less the same.

Very interesting lyricist though.

God you are absolutely right. That predominately black musci doesn't hold a candle to that predominately white music. And no it's not your fault that it just so happens that white fok are much more advanced in the art of literature. You just like to point out that predominately white song makers are mcuh better at their form of music than predominately black song makers are good at their form of music. Never mind the whole cultural difference. It's kind of the same way art critics say European art is technically better than South American or African art. And, again it's not your fault they are better. You just like to say it because you prefer that music.

I'm just curious but what might your race be? What is your background? Are you religious? Did you go to a public school your whole life? You pointed out your understanding of some pretty good tracks, I noticed. Did you grow up in a big city? Do you smoke weed? Do many of your friends? On a weekly basis?

Believe me these questions matter when it comes to what music prefer.

Is that an example of uber-irony, or are you just an idiot?

Lets make a poll. I vote idiot.

I'm inclined to agree. That final "Believe me these questions matter when it comes to what music prefer(sic)" sentence seemed a little too earnest for it to be considered uber-irony. Or, perhaps 'uber-irony' really goes that far? Who knows? Do you? I don't. Perhaps only tweep-tweep does...

It was like a graph of irony against earnestness over time.
