In just the most recent issue of Superman[last weeks issue, Action 847].. it told a story of Superman taking on a sun eater, that was firing off Red Sun energy at him, and he was taking all the blasts to the chest and flying closer and closer, trying to protect a bomb all the while, as he closed in on the creature.... The red sun exposure got worse and worse as he flew closer to the Sun Eater, it drained away his powers like the morning dew evaporating. With his energy depleted, Superman hurled the bomb into the Sun Eater, then survived the equivelent of 50 supernovas. He didn't even lose consciousness, it only knocked him backwards mometarily before he gathered his bearings and flew out of the blast under his own power.
