I'm not so sure this IS plot induced stupidity as far as the comic is concerned. At best this might be character induced action as far as Gladiator is concerned.
Here's why I think that.
Hulk is being CARRIED by Gladiator.
Not thrown or punched.
Let me put this in human terms.
Imagine yourself for a moment trying to read an open book, turned to page 36, that is magically flying through the air at, say, 100 miles per hour.
Can't do it, right? The book probably zips by you before you can discern so much as 10 letters.
Your friend Joe, standing 20 feet off from you, doesn't do much better.
But that's 'cause both of you are standing still.
Let's change one thing. Let's have YOU moving at 100 miles per hour. YOU, in fact, are a passenger ... on Japan's bullet train. The book is on a table in the dining car of that train. You are seated at that table. You are able to read that book. In fact, you are also able to drink a cup of Constant Comment tea without spilling a drop of it, even though the tea, just like you, is likewise moving at 100 miles per hour.
What's changed?
Your inertial frame of reference.
The fact of you being carried along WITH that 100 mile-per-hour book changes the reality. That book is unreadable when it is going at 100 miles per hour and you are not.
It is perfectly readable, however, when YOU are traveling the same speed as the book. It changes from a blur passing by you, to a story you can digest at leisure.
To your friend Joe? Standing as he was in the original scenario in the exact same spot.
That book is STILL a blur. YOU are a blur along with it now.
So is that cup of tea.
But I'll bet you won't spill a drop of it on the bullet train.
And you'll enjoy page 36 of whatever story you're reading.
