Yes straight people might be allowed to go, but what straight person would want to? Knowing that if you see a girl or guy you like they won't be interested at all. So it ends up being totally gay where straight people neither want to go nor wouldn't feel welcomed.

Straight Culture, gays have a different culture? Hahah, I think you're making gay people out to be more different than they actually are, they like men instead of women, big deal.

Most people get taunted and teased at school, deal with it like everyone else, gays are no different.

And I guess that answers my question as to why gays feel that the fact that they like guys is a key part of who they are.

Its not, but when people single it out as a reason to discriminate, its given more weight than its worth, so some people actually begin to think that is becomes a defining characteristic.

However, I know gays who are straighter than I am, if you get what I mean. More people need to follow the Anderson Cooper method of "I don't need to come out, you never needed to come out as straight to me." Sexuality is not a big deal, but as long as there is discrimination based on it, people will get the wrong idea.

Boris is right; being gay shouldnt matter when it comes to educational choices. College campuses are extremely liberal, with the exception of a handful like Notre Dame and Georgetown.

Yeah, but being latino yourself, would you go to an all white school, or an all black school? It doesn't matter, provided there is acceptance and diversity.

These exist? WTF?

Probably not, especially for whites, but there are schools that are 99% white, or historically black.

It's still not segregation. Gay people attend predominantly "straight" schools all the time. You are trying to create a factual argument out of an opinion. It's not working.

Many Gay people feel unwelcomed in most schools anyway. What is your point ?

Did I say "straight culture" ? I do not recall saying that, and If I did, that is now what I meant.

I never said it was a big deal. I don't even understand what point you are trying to make here.

That is true. Gays are no different, and Gays are just as capable of being bullies as are straights.

However, homophobia is far more common than racism in most schools, and far more accepted still.

Do I think that homophobia is worse than racism ? No

Do I imagine that Gays are treated the worst out of every other diverse type of person? No

However, go to any High School....public or private. Everybody uses the word "f@g" far more than they will use the words n*gger, sp*c, etc.

In most high schools, being Gay is STILL socially unacceptable. Do not pretend that it isn't.

It doesn't matter how handsome, rich, talented, or athletic a young man in a general high school is. Once people know he is Gay, he is harassed, tormented by his peers, and his "flaw" becomes a bigger deal than anyone else's.

Do not pretend that isn't the case. High Schools in general do not contain the atmosphere that accepts attacks on blacks, hispanics, and other ethnic minorities.

However, Gay slurs and anti-gay sentiment is STILL rampant in most high schools today. It is still acceptable to most young students, because most young students think it is OKAY to make fun of, or dislike a gay person, while making fun of Mexicans and Blacks is "wrong".

And what do you care anyway ? Harvey Milk is a Gay High School..not a college. What do you care if a gay student wants to attend that kind of school instead of going to a school where he will be tormented for having a boyfreind ?

Straight people have thousands of other options. Stop trying to argue that Harvey Milk is a burden to straight students, because that is a ****ing load of horse shit. Most straight students dont even know it ****ing exists.

The solution to discrimination is segregation.

Please examine the consequences of that statement.

Segregation promotes discrimination. Living together maybe painful at times, but it is the only way to overcome our differences.

Exactly. Thus, Urizen has no point.

All too easy.

That is not segregation. You do not know what you are talking about.

Harvey Milk High is simply a school which is popular among gay students, which sought to welcome particularly Gay students who do not feel comfortable in other High Schools.

They try to alleviate the "weirdness" and "awkwardness" that other school atmospheres have towards Gays.

Tell me any other High School that DOES NOT contain a large amount of anti-gay sentiment. Any fkn school in the U.S.A. where Gay students are not bullied for being Gay.

If a Gay student chooses to go to a predominantly straight school, that is his or her choice. If a Gay student chooses to go to a predominantly Gay school, that is his or her choice.

What problem do you have with this ?

A gay school is a stupid idea. Gay people must live in the real world and face the problems in this world. To run and hide is not the answer.

They do every single day.

Despite going to a predominantly Gay school, these Harvey Milk students will still face discrimination at work, on the streets, in public places, on trips, on vacation, and even at home.

And not just for being Gay...for being fat, or ethnic, or whatever else.

They have the right to choose where they want to go. And if they do not feel like being bullied, physically or mentally, at an institution which they feel they will be, they don't have to go there.

They have the right to go to a place where they feel comfortable, and whether you think that is cowardly is irrelevant. It is THEIR Life, NOT YOURS.

I agree, but you feel that for a gay student to attend a predominantly gay school is to "run and hide".

I know plenty of white people who tend to register to predominantly white schools, Hispanics and Blacks who do the same.

Is that the answer ? No

But a Gay student, just like any student, has the right to attend whichever school he or she chooses, for whatever reason.

What Boris and Alliance seemed to be arguing is that his is segregation, which it is factually not.

No one is forcing Gays or Straights to go anywhere. Every student has the choice to attend or not.

I dont have a different opinion. The Koran is what makes a Muslim a Muslim. It tells them how to live every aspect of their life, and says that being a Muslim supercedes all other identities like their nationality, race and so on.

Since WHEN is the Quran a source of absolute truth ? So does the Bible make up who you are ?

That's a load of crap.

A religion does NOT supercede your race and sexuality in terms of human identity.

A religion is a human construct, NOT a natural part of a person's being.

To my knowledge, there's no 'Gay Bible' that says the same.

There doesn't have 2 be. Being Gay is a natural part of a human being who is Gay, and sexuality is a bigger part of someone than their religion is. You are born with sex, humans like every other mammal are naturally sexual beings.

Religion is not natural, religion only matters as much as the person makes it matter.

Am I saying religion is not a part of who they are ? No..it is. But we control how much religion is a part of our identity and life. We don't control our sexual orientation, we have to work with what we are given.

It IS a key part of who they are. Is it the defining part ? No...there is never a defining part, everything that makes you what you are is what you are.

However, sex and race, two things that every human being is born with, two things that every human being possesses, is a far more integral part of thier physical/physiological being than a religion or culture.

Does that mean people should be judged or defined by sex and race ? No...but there individualities should not be ignored. Celebrated if anything.

I know Gay Pride Parades annoy the hell out of you, but u know what ? Mexican Pride can be quite annoying as well, so I guess we're even 🙄

Like I said before, I didnt say being Gay determines your educational choice. It just was a PART of my reasoning.

And not in terms of what school I attended, but in terms of what literature I choose to read, and how I look at religion and culture in general.

It doesn't determine my outlook, but it sure as hell contributes.

People are bullied for every reason...I'm "bullied" for being smart, white, a swimmer...who gives a f*ck? We live in a real world, not a world of artificial happiness and designed societies.

Gays are being bullied just like every other kid. So what? the world is not 90% gay. its 90% straigt. Get over that.

Not only does your solution hurt gays, its hurts the communities by reducing exposure to homosexuality.if blacks were never integrated into schools, you can bet segregation would have lasted a last longer, as would have discrimination. This is the same scenario. Integration will reduce societal pressure.

it also stikes me as awkward that people can actually have a sexuality in high-school.

Exactly. Segrgating into "safe zones" is more divisive. Same arguments as segrgation, just comming from the minority this time...

According to the National School Climate Survey, over a third of gay students experienced physical harassment at school on the basis of sexual orientation, and nearly one-in-five gay students had been physically assaulted because of their sexual orientation. As a result, gay students are five times more likely to have skipped school in the last month because of safety concerns than the general population of students. We are not exactly talking about name calling here.

Indeed. Schools with comprehensive policies that specifically address bullying and harassment based on sexual orientation have lower incidences of harassment, and higher rates of intervention by school staff when anti-gay harassment occurs.
