My statement is innaccurate. According to every source I have found, there are 3 major reasons in the United States why parents disown their children:
Homosexuality, Teen Pregnancy, and Change of Religion
I am unsure which is the top one, but there are definately the top 3. Either way, my point still holds.

It is for the most part, but there are areas in Queens, Brooklyn, the Bronx, and Upper Manhatten where homosexuality is still unacceptable by alumni in elementary and high school.
In Long Island, where I live actually, every single elementary and high school still uses the word "f@g" as the most common and offensive insult. The colleges tend to be more liberal.
I assure you, being openly gay in many of NYC schools (younger generation schools like elementary and high school) are more than enough reason to be beaten up , or even killed, in the eyes of the young alumni

Do you realize what your own posts mean? You said most students in Harvey Milk "happen" to be gay simply because the school is named after a gay man. That is incorrect, most students are gay because the school was designed for primarily gay students.
It's not a "gay" school. This is what you and Alliance are trying to argue, and you are factually incorrect.
Yes, the school was designed primarily to be gay-freindly, since almost every other school environment in New York is NOT gay freindly. What problem do you have with this ?
Those who register to Harvey Milk do not have to be Gay students, but they better be ready to be surrounded by a majority of Gay students.
In NYC schools, elementary and high, homophobia is the most COMMON form of bigotry, and the most accepted reason to bully. Racism, Religious bigotry, and body superficiality are NOT as big an issue in NYC bullying as homophobia is.
please do your research. I am not talking about the entirely of USA, I am talking about specific schools in NYC.
So....since homosexual students, in general, recieve not only the highest frequency of bullying, but also the most extreme forms of bullying (being beaten nearly to death, and/or being killed), I think the Harvey Milk Academy is pretty smart to make this school specifically Gay-Freindly.
What...problem...do...you...have...with...this ? 😬

Fair Enough:
The state of NYC schools in regard to GLBT discrimination:
http://www.socialistworker.org/2003-2/468/468_04_HarveryMilk.shtml
In addition to the 70 percent of GLBT youth who are subjected to harassment or violence in school, studies show that up to 40 percent of GLTB youth attempt suicide. The majority of HMS students are poor, 75 percent are non-white, and 10 percent are in foster care. Last year's HMS valedictorian lived in a group home after his family abandoned him because he was gay. For gay kids whose parents deem them "sick," or who are getting beaten daily at school, why not allow them a school where they are actually treated like human beings?

And Gay Pride Parades don't annoy as much as they perplex me. I dont see how exactly doing what they do in those marches has anything to do with saying 'I'm proud'.

Like I said before, I didnt say being Gay determines your educational choice. It just was a PART of my reasoning. And not in terms of what school I attended, but in terms of what literature I choose to read, and how I look at religion and culture in general.
It doesn't determine my outlook, but it sure as hell contributes.
When it comes to elemntary, junior high, and high school, that would make sense. But as a college kid, you shouldnt feel too limited in you choices, porque most colleges are really a la izquierda, guey.

No, its just that in college most kids who are Gay decide to come out by then. What's the school gonna do ?

Depends on how religious the Muslim is. I've known some who drink and eat pork and who are only observant during Ramadan, and some who are very devout and actually pray five times a day.

The Mexicans there are over shadowed by the other, more numerous ethnicites. Unlike in L.A. and Phoenix and the big cities in TX where Mexicans are everywhere.
Yeah, Boricua Pride is pretty fun.

For one, the traditional Aztec dances in the traditional Aztec dress commemorates our heritage. Nosotros tiene el sagne del Aztecas, guey.
But with gays parades...I dont see exactly what dancing on those floats naked, or in those bright pink feathered costumes comemorates or says.

A place with a name like Queens should not be gay-hostile......
I bet fat people get made fun of more.
Besides, gay people will always be made fun of. They're different from the norm. That's how it has been and that's how it will always be.
And there's nothing wrong with that. Why? Because children are obnoxious pricks. They've been singling out people who are different for...well, ever, I'd assume.

If the children in question are being removed from traditional schools simply because they are being bullied, called ****, or have had someone spit in their lunch, you might have an argument.
That was my impression until I was informed there was a whole extra dimension to the problem: economics. That changes my opinon of this case entirely, assuming the school provides to students who have been placed at an economic disatvantage because of their sexuality.
If students go there simply because they've been a victim of harassment/violence at school, I'd stand by my earlier argument.

I don't see it as solely gay rights, though of course they are also not equal rights. I mean, I can't marry a guy either if I wanted to and just because I don't want to doesn't mean that that right should be banned for everyone. People should have more rights...not less.
The issue lies in a funny place between gay-rights and equal-rights, it is neither fully one or the other. I fully support federally recognized marriage between any two consenting adults. This is not an issue for me.

Harvey Milk High School has an absolute ZERO TOLERANCE of discrimination of any kind, and since in New York City schools, discrimination against Gay and Lesbian Students happens to be the highest form of alumni bigotry, this school focuses on Gay-freindly environment.
You advertised it as a f*g vault for femmy boys to come and frolic in the fields. Perhaps you should stop dreaming and present facts.
I've already said that a better solution is to work on discrimination policies in schools, not to remove kids from the school system. If they are being removed for economic reasons, its a different story.
and STATS????

Dude, we know that the School was opened....that's what we are talking about. Again...no stats. No numbers. No official sources.
"Everybody feels that it's a good idea because some of the kids who are gays and lesbians have been constantly harassed and beaten in other schools and this lets them get an education without having to worry," Bloomberg told reporters at his daily briefing today.
"What next? Maybe we should have schools for chubby kids who get picked on. Maybe all kids who wear glasses should have special schools. It's ridiculous," he said, according to the paper.

I am not talking about being made fun of. I hope no Gay person is hoping to fully escape that, because they will be horribly dissapointed.
I am talking about being consistantly harassed and nearly beaten to death simply for being openly gay. That happens quite often in some parts of NYC. Things have gotten better, but it's still quite bad.

There is a major difference between young children making fun of two male adults kissing, and then young adults beaten up a gay student.

Fat people are made fun of more, most likely, but they are not beaten up for being fat. At least not to the extant that Gay students are. However, I personally know a few Gay students who do bully straight or gay fat kids.
Superficiality or "looks-ism" is far more common than Homophobia in NYC, however, likewise, Homophobia is far more common than Racism in NYC schools, in regards to reasons for bullying.
