Is homosexual behavior a sin? Yes [Leviticus 18:22; Romans 1:26-27; 1 Corinthians 6:9-11]. However, it is important to note that having homosexual feelings is not necessarily a sin, if one does not act on them. Temptation does not equal transgression [Hebrews 4:15]. But there is a caveat; all lust, whether heterosexual or homosexual, is sin [1 Peter 4:3]. If you capitulate to your feelings, lust will result. That said, it is important to remember that all people are sinners who fall short of God's holy perfection [Romans 3:23], and homosexual behavior is no worse than any other sin. For example, the above mentioned passage [1 Corinthians 6:9-11] lists the following sins as equally problematic.
-any sexual activity prior to marriage (fornication)
-the worship of any god other than Yahweh (idolatry)
-any sexual activity outside your marriage (adultery)
-behaving in an effeminate manner (men only)
-engaging in homosexual behavior
-committing theft
-envying people
-getting drunk
-abusing people
-swindling people
The Bible says that any and all of these sins will keep a person out of God's kingdom. In truth, ANY sin will keep a person out of heaven -- and we're all sinners.
The good news is, no matter what you've done, God is ready to forgive you if you will turn away from your sins and acknowledge the Lord Jesus Christ as your Savior and King [Mark 1:15; Romans 10:9].
Someone might say, "God made me gay. I was born with these feelings and it's not fair for God to tell me I can't pursue them."
The truth is, every single person on earth is born with a sinful nature, and God wasn't the one who gave it to us. We inherited it from Adam, our original human father [1 Corinthians 15:22] who rebelled against God and introduced sin into the human experience. Every one of us has certain weaknesses to particular sins. One person has a weakness for theft, while another can't seem to tell the truth to save his life. Another person has a mean streak, while yet another can't keep a secret. No one is strong. No one is bullet proof.
Most of us have some vulnerability to sexual sin -- men especially. Whether this vulnerability is heterosexual, homosexual, bisexual, transsexual, bestial, necrophilial, or some other variety, it really doesn't matter. Sin is sin.
"Hold on," some will object, "I refuse to live my life alone! You have no idea what you're asking of me."
No one said you have to be alone or unfulfilled. But don't buy into the lie that emotional fulfillment can only come from a relationship God has deemed unhealthy. Ultimate fulfillment comes from having a relationship with your Creator. Whatever you need, He can provide it. Whatever requires changing, He can change it. And if your need is for a loving pair of arms to wrap around you and share the comfort and encouragement we all yearn from time to time, this is available in spades through the body of Christ -- the community of Christian believers. Satan wants us to think that sex is the solution, when all any of us truly needs is real, lasting, unconditional, supernatural love. That's what Jesus offers. That's why I follow Him.
