It's interesting. The Australian release date for the XBox 360 has just been pushed back by about 21 days. Now, being cynical I can't decide why... it's either:
A. They are telling the truth and the extent of preordering means they really can't meet the demand and thus have pushed it back in order to have enough stock to sell in Australia without any nastiness happening.
OR
B. It's a marketing ploy made to make the 360 seem even more glamorous and wanted. I mean, a smooth release on the original launch date only draws a bit of attention, but posters advising the date change and the reason for it makes people think "Oh wow, there wasn't going to be enough, everyone must want one or has one preordered, clearly it's the hip thing, I better get down to the games shop and place my preorder!"

b) no advertising
If it was suppose to be spring that meaning of the end of June, thats 4 months. If they are releasing it in June, I would think that an release date, announced launch titles and marketing campaign would be in full swing by now.
If that article is true though, Sony is ****ed. I'm sorry, but who the hell will buy an PS3 for that much money over an XBOX 360?

I agree with both of you on that one because we would be seeing some kind of advertisment by now however the spring launch is for japan.
About pushing back the launch date in North America im gonna say that it would be better if they launched it during the holidays then before because they would be doing 100% in sales. Just look back at 360s launch everything sold out and on EBAY people were paying $3000 for it. (Which by the way i plan on doing when PS3 comes out, buy 1 or 2 console than sell it on EBAY making more than double the sale price).

The think is though is that Sony does make some sort of money during Christmas, but the majority of the buyers will be hardcore gamers, who want to pay that kinda of cash for it.
But the majority of the buyers during Christmas are parents. Parents usually buy the more cheaper one.
Also, your forgetting that 360 has been out for a year and alot of the games that are going to be big will be out during Christmas. That could sway alot of casual gamers away from the PS3 cause when the it comes out, the launch titles will not be impressive as what the 360 offers.
Just remember what happened to the XBOX and GC when they came out. It was the same thing, the PS2 was already out and it got alot of consumers away from the XBOX and GC.
Sony is the leader because of casual gamers. They might lose that base of consumer, which will favour the 360. Also, if they decrease the price of the 360 at the time of the PS3 launch, that iwll be a major turning point.
