This is about lying to the consumers, being arrogant to consumers, pretending you know exactly what people want. That's called PR. Completely different than service problems. Those problems can get fixed by a free month of service, or a special deal.
Telling people you got an award for your SIXAXIS controller, when in fact you got an award with Nintendo from the Dual Shock. That's lying. How many times has this individual thread have something that Sony says, and then a month later, reveals itself saying something completely contridicting.
I dont know, 2 always seemed the like the bigger deal to me. But I got an Xbox almost a year after launch, so I guess the hype if 1 died down.
I did love 1 and I got sucked into the hype of 2, which was enjoyable, but not second coming of Christ( 😉 ). I remember getting it on the 2 days early from the videostore I worked at, I had like 8 people at my house that night, I felt cool. 😂
i dont kno, maybe i'm just weird or whatever but i never really liked Halo...my friends made it seem like "OMG u dont like Halo wats wrong with you, its the greatest." I just never got into it. Especially when Halo 2 came out. OMG i felt like a dweeb especially when they invited me to play all i could say was "No, i dont really fancy that game" then they gave me the face like i was the biggest ass whole in the universe. When i really wanted scream "i detest that ****ing game" then take the disc out of the x-box and throw it at them like a ****ing chakaram. I dont know, I much rather play 007 with a multitap on my ps2...Is there something wrong with me?

The Xbox was hardly a failure, and of COURSE Microsoft was eventually going to drop it and stop making it. Every company does this once they have something new on the market. Sony will do the same to the PS2 in the next year, year and a half.
And the problem people have with Sony isn't so much confidence and arrogance, but their downright lying, stealing, and attitude that their audience will do anything they say at the snap of a finger. That goes far beyond simply being confident or arrogant.

Yeah, I wanna see what MS said that's on par with what Sony has been lying to people.
There's a difference between not saying anything, then going to the press saying somethign thats completely untrue. It's not about confidence, buts about sending a good message. And what Sony is doing is not sending a good message.
PR always spins the company in a good light, but there is ways of doing it that doesnt make consumers feel like shit.

I think it is the veiw point you look at things, if they say they "will" do something then you can call them liars, but if something was not 100% confirmed and they say they "can" do somthing, then that is not a lie, its just saying its possible, doesn't mean we will do it, its a guess and can be changed at any point, a lot of the stuff that Sony has said hasn't been confirmed, in fact, I find Sony too quiet, half the time they shut up about stuff and leave people in the midst, like PSN which they didn't reveal until the last minute, how the heck were devs meant to know how to utilise something that wasn't discussed with them.
The fact they said PS3 would be more powerful then the 360 is true technically speaking, but there is nothing as of yet to reveal or proove it game wise. There are things Sony has lied about, and things that people have blown up to make out as a lie because they are either a fanboy and won't see it that way or the media changing things. The Emmy for example recently, another chance to call Sony a liar because they were given a misenturpreted reason as to why they were given an Emmy. Buesinesses say a lot of things and half the time this is just a guess, no business blaitantly lies about things intentionally, if Sony lied about evrything they did they wouldn't be seen as one of the biggest tech companies out there like they are today.
Its funny though, only the most rabid of gamers would assume Sony blaitantly go around lying for the sake of it, I admit they are arrogant, but blaitant liars? Theres a difference between a false statement and a blaitant lie. As for the GFX looking the way they did on CGI, although evryone claimed Sony said this, I don't recall Sony at any point saying that those CGI clips would be exactly what PS3 graphics would look like, otherwise there wouldn't have been specualtion, it would have been confirmed, theres no reason to speculate, besides, Sony didn't make those clips, the devs did 😖 The only Sony made clips were of Killzone, and if you look at Killzone and the likes of Halo 3 as well as Gears of war, Killzone (although obvious CGI) looks like it could really be made, it doesnt look as obviously fake as Motorstorm CGI, and while at first I doubted PS3 was capable of Killzone 2 graphics, when I saw Gears of war, it confirmed to me that Killzone 2 is very much possible.
What has Sony said they "will" do no matter what, spoken from them, that they have not delivered. The emotion engine on PS2? Wasn't confirmed, the XBL replica service? Wasn't confirmed, in fact, they weren't even going to do it, they only changed thier minds early this year and promised to compete with XBL, not beat it, they also promised to give us free online, and despite the fact it may be pretty dire, its there is it not?

Their only real point at the show was that yes, the PS3 would make all its games look like that. Thus, all the prerendered trailers, like Killzone 2 and MGS4. And yes, they lied about it, the interviewed representatives said that the Killzone 2 clip was actual play, not a prerendered clip.
And they didn't lie about the Emmy? It was Sony's press release that claimed the PS3 had won the honor, no one else:

I think what Sony meant by Killzone although they later confirmed it was CGI and made no statement that that was the actual game being played, was that it was achievable on the PS3, and despite the doubts at first, after seeing Gears of war people are starting to come around to the idea the game will look like that, infact they showed the clip and left it at that, however, the more I look at that clip is the more I ask myself why it is not possible to have that, it doesn't look impossible in the slightest. If anything, people have slightly disregarded the graphics issue and gone on to speculate if the game will be any good gameplay wise because the last one kinda sucked.
As for the Emmy, it was Sony who announced it, but they just announced it from another source and misinterpreted what they gained it for, that was cleared up afterwards when they apologised after being corrected by the Emmy officials that it wasn't for Sixaxis. Then they got another Emmy. So they have 2 now. That was a lack of communication, not Sony blaitantly lying, I've been in the situ before (not the Emmy, but after gaining a sports award), doesn't mean I'm a liar.
