Last-Gen Console Discussions (PS3, Xbox 360, Wii)

As Lana posted, I'm in the Wii demand, and am sick of being screwed, most likely due to state. I wanna buy a 360 now, I wanted both to begin with, but now I want it so I have something new before college. I heard you get 30 days free to play games on XBox live with the Free Silver Card you get, is this true? I don't feel like buying the console, 2-3 games, and having to spend $25, $50 on a gold card.

Yes, you do get a free XBOX Live Trial.

Let's see you manufacture enough consoles to meet demand...if you want it to be done right it takes time. It's not that Nintendo is doing it on purpose, they are just selling like hotcakes and still not over saturating the market.

XBox 360 was hard to come by at first was it not? Check and Mate... Be patient.

The 360 had new top of the line technology and components, the CPU and Graphics chip were both high end stuff, it takes longer to produce highend components. The Wii has much much older components, a CPU and graphics chip that have more in common with last gen then gen-now, Nintendo should have a much easier time than Sony or MS when it comes to stocking the systems, they should be quick and cheap to make, unlike the PS3 and the 360.

Plus, Nintendo isn't foreign to creating, or at least enchancing shortages. They did it for the N64, they did it with The Twilight Princess, and for all I know they're doing it with the Wii.

You really think a multibillion dollar corperation like Nintendo can't up the production speed if they really wanted to? I'm not saying they're witholding consoles or intentionally going overly slow, just that they're probably not concerned about meeting demand. With shortages come hype, with hype comes demand, and with demand comes money. It makes sense in a business sense, but as a consumer who's been trying to find a Wii for near two months now, it's unacceptable and annoying, not to mention questionable since the Wii uses dated technology that should be available in abundance.

Frankly I'd be surprised if Nintendo were not producing as fast as it is reasonable to. Their supply has been greater than X-Box and WAY greater than PS3 in the same time frame since release. I really would be surprised if the hype effect is anything but a side effect rather than a goal.

Don't know what the whole topic is about, but I'd have to say this:

Xbox 360 is teh best! (lol)
Wii is 2nd best.
PS3 is for fanboys because of it's price (probably will have a few good games though...)

Well I'm no expert, but what's on the screen definitely isn't High Definition Television and my mom didn't even know this. She just knew it was a High Definition Television and thought was she was watching was automatically gonna be High Definition, but it's not.

And just b/c someone has an High Definition Television doesn't mean they have the High Definition Signal. You still have to make sure you have that all straight before you finally get High Definition Television.

As Lance said, you'll need a HD cable box that allows you access to HD channels to actually watch HD programs.

And you can probably play your 360 in HD right now. All you have to do is use your component cables.

Woman dies, she had to hold her wee to win a wii- http://www.mytelus.com/news/article.do?pageID=world_home&articleID=2513317

If you're looking for a brand-new system that JUST came out, you're going to have to either be patient or hope to get damn lucky. That's the long and short of it. You're not the only one here still waiting to get one, you realize.

That's correct. Or any other multiplayer game for that matter.

I dont know, all the EB's in Ottawa are getting a very few Wii's every 2 weeks.

That's sounds pretty iffy to me. For a company to publicly say it will ship 6 million Wii's by the end of 06, it seems to me that they do not have a short amount of supply, but that they're not shipping enough.

Wasnt Nintendo who said they have been producing Wii's since early summer?

I cannot see them not having enough in stock.

Also, it was known that the reason XBOX's 360 were soo low in shipment is because of the manufactering problems it had and the overzealous launch date...but that's not the case with the Wii.

I can understand why EB's and GS's don't get that many, they're a small specialty store.

But when my local Best Buy, which is very popular, get's about 15 every two weeks, something just doesn't smell right.

Actually, I thought they said 2 million by the end of the year. Which I'm pretty sure they did more than that.

And guys, I wouldn't presume to think you know everytime a store gets a shipment 😛 I don't even know when half of ours have come, just that we'll get a few every few days and they'll be gone right away.

I just talked to the people at EB, and they say, they usually got a very few Wii's and its usually every two weeks.

They set up a system at this store and people who come in are suppose to call the number around 930, and when the day of the shipment, which they know, they tell people it's today and its between 11 to 1.

So hopefully, this store, who hasnt gotten a shipment for about a week, will get one this week and I hope its monday, because well, thats the day I dont work. But well, like any other time Ive looked, im giong to get the shit end of the stick.

EDIT: Sorry it was till end of first quarter 07.

Yeah, I see.

I don't plan on playing on it though.

By the way. I saw that it said on the box that the cables that came with the XBOX 360 were component cables.

So that would mean there's no need to go out and buy component cables for the XBOX 360 right?

anata wa wakarimasu ka.....

Yep.

You dont need to buy component cables...unlike someother company.

Smasandian... why not just pre-order your Wii and have it shipped to you or go to Best Buy near you and pre-order it there then when the shipment comes they will reserve it for you.

How can you pre-order/reserve something that's already out?

You can't.

pre-order wasnt the word I wanted to use to be honest. I meant raincheck (it just came to mind).

There's no way a store will give a raincheck on something like a Wii. Stuff like that is first-come-first-serve.
