GTA3 led to huge sales of PS2 which led to companies making great exclusives for PS2 because of the larger market.

He didn't say that, he clearly said that GTA was a system seller and one of the main reasons why PS2 became a success, had he said GTA3 in particular like you have made it clear now was the reasoning that people picked up a PS2 during the period that Xbox did not have GTA3, then this debate wouldn't have even proceeded. GTA3 was one of the only good games back at its time, however there were lots of other titles, just not as hyped as GTA was.

After GTA3 was released, GTA3 shifted quite a few consoles, I still wouldn't say it made PS2 what it was, but it was one of the most popular franchises on the PS2, not the most, but one of the most. PS2 cannot really be known for one game, it didn't rely on one game, and didn't need a mascot either.

The amount of times you would come onto a gaming site and find people just buying a PS2 and asking what games they should buy knowing full well theres lots they are interested in, otherwise they wouldn't have bought it.

This is why I cant part with my PS2, I love it too much ^^

PS had GTA3 and GTA VC exclusive for 2 years, so to say that it didnt have a huge effect on sales because the series has been ported doesnt apply well.

Despite the content GTA has a very Wii effect on people, anyone can play it, ive had to take the controller back from my mother before. But games like Halo have a specific audience, so it doesnt have quiet the same effect, even though the fans of that game are more vocal and dedicted making a bigger scene when a game comes out.

Couldn't agree more, GTA3 wasn't out on xbox for 2 years?? 😖 That long? I swear they were only a year apart.

Regardless, GTA was just one of many. I am looking towards La Noire, that game could be quite cool depending on what the gameplay is like, guess we'll have to wait and see ey.

GTA3 was in 01, but the xbox pack didnt come out till 12/2003. lol

Man, I got to give Xbox credit, they have good customer service. I just called them and they are gonna let me get my 11 month old 360 repaired even though I cant find the ****ing reciept. 😄

Meh, PC version of GTA3 was more fun for me then PS2 version, while the controls themselves weren't all that great on PC, being able to play it online via a hack and make your own modelled cars etc made it awesome to play 🙂

My personal opinion was based upon Fifa, I am simply using myself as an example, of course Fifa is still selling well, but who do you think is still buying it, those that adore football and want to experience proper managing and team creation as well as statistic increase, or those that buy a football game for the sake of it.

Its like comparing the hardcore gamer to the casual. Casual games usually sell better, doesn't necessarily mean they are better. And thats a fact, not an opinion.

Eye toy had more reasoning for others outside of gaming to pick up the PS2, thus boosting the PS2 sales. It wasn't the grand system seller, if anything, people picked up a PS2 because it had a whole listing of games, because 1 or two people say they picked up a PS2 for GTA in here, that doesn't mean the rest of the world did, the fact its on here makes that a secluded figure, the fact that we are talking North America buying the PS2 for GTA makes this again a secluded figure.

I still don't think this makes much sense anyway, seeing as it released on Xbox as well 😖 Plus Xbox had Halo, are you saying that people preferred a console with just GTA when they could get a console with both GTA and Halo? Thats just daft, if that was the case, why people didn't just go pick up and Xbox and get GTA later but still have Halo and Halo 2 is beyond me. There is lack of logic in that.

If thats the case, God of war and other such titles must have sucked and not been worth looking at.

K dude.

Your not reading me correctly. If Astrofan can figure out what I was saying, then obviously your not getting it.

"Yeah, GTA3 was the major reason people bought the PS2 over the XBOX when it came out."

I said this. How could you not get it.

I also said that GTA3 was an system seller and one the of main reasons the PS2 outsold every other console. Is this false? No.

Did I say GTA3 was the only reason the PS2 sold. No, I didnt. So yeah, please read next correctly next time.

So FIFA doesnt sell well to hardcore football fans. Doesnt matter. FIFA still outsells Pro Evo and is on every console. Your example is wrong becaues it doesnt matter who picks up the console. Sales are sales, and casual gamers make or break the system. Case in point, GTA3. It was the system seller for casual gamers. Not Eye Toy. In fact, most games that require specilized hardware just in order to play rarely does well, except maybe DDR games.

North American is an huge market thinking that one game that sells well doesnt mean that its an secluded figure is wrong. Halo, and the majority of highest selling games are in fact from North America. Also, guess what? GTA😖A is currently the top selling game in Japan right now.

Lastly, I said GTA3 was an system seller and was the main system seller for the PS2. Does that mean its still is? No, it doesnt. But when it came out, it was hugely successful in moving PS2's, especially over XBOX's. Why would anybody want to buy an PS2 if GTA3 was released on the XBOX? As Astrofan pointed out, it wasnt released until two years later.

So yes, your wrong. The PS2 success was largely in fact of GTA3. It is it the only reason, no. But it helped out greatly.

Tell me about it...ermm

I just got a brand new 360 shipped back to me a few weeks back..

I'm thinking of doing that for my XBOX. Taking it back to EB for a new one, or atleast to fix it.

I get alot of disc read problems. Alot with Madden 07, and a few others. Some on the other hand, I dont get any. Is a hardware problem, or is it entirely an software problem.

Also, a question for Lana, I assume I cant trade in my XBOX 360 and keep the harddrive?

Pulse, I assume both of us are not going to falter in the arguement. So lets agree to disagree?

I kept my Hard drive when I sent my 360 for repairs....srug

Me and some friends of mine often get a "disk unreadable" error when playing Gears of War...😬 So annoying.

We still havent got the PS3 yet (March) but what launch titles did it have? And have any good games come out for it?

Resistance, that's it for good games. It launched with like what 5-10 games?

yeah i did notice that wii and ps3 didnt have very many release titles this time around

360 had an ok amount i guess

I am wondering if they are doing that discount thing for PS3s over here, if so I'll pick one up earlier. Sell your PS2 and pick up PS3 for 100 pounds cheaper or at least 50. Any less then that and forget it, I'll wait.

I mean I've got the cash already, I'm just being stubborn.

It is.

Especially for Madden. You play an hour game, and you have all the stats and shit, and when your trying to save it, it goes kaput.

When you got it at EB, did you get the warranty?

But yeah, we've had people bring in their 360s that died and we just swapped it out for a new one, and stuck the harddrive for the one that was swapped on the defective one. You keep your harddrive.

Yeah, I got the 1 year one.

Sweet, that you get to keep your harddrive.

Yup, you'll be good. Just bring it in (helps if you have the warranty receipt, but system warranties can be looked up so long as the serial number on your system is still there and readable), and they'll give you a new system and you'll be able to keep your harddrive. I'd recommend mentioning it though, just in case they forget.

Yeah, I will.

Is my problem worth doing all that?

I just dont know if its a broken system, or just an bug in some games. I dont want to go through all the hassle of doing all that stuff just because the developers didnt test it correctly.

If it happens in multiple games it's probably a problem with your system, and it may just get worth.

I'd say go for it.
