This isnt just about the North American audience.
They still cater to the Japan market, which is just as large as important.
From the Gamespot article, wii means good in Japanese.
I dont mind it, and AC states a good point about how other consoles just add an number to it.
My only complaint is that the word doesnt flow with Nintendo and that Nintendo gave such meaning to Revolution that it stuck with people. That didnt happen with N64.
Features?
Console's have never had anything to do with features. A new console meant better graphics, sound and usually gameplay.
It just happened recently that consoles have features, but for the past 20 years, they rarely had them.
Nothing new in the XBOX 360? Gaming profile, much better user interface, HD capable, XBOX Live right out of the box. That seems to me that it has new features. Also, I'm not including all the graphics capabilities it has that the old XBOX doesnt (HDR Lighting for example)
If you look back, you will notice that most consoles dont add anything new in terms of features.\
NES to SNES - better graphics, more buttons on controller, easier to play
SNES to N64 - better graphics, more buttons on controller
N64 to GC - better graphics, new media format, internet and wireless controllers
Pretty much goes with the Playstation also.
This current gen is the first generation of consoles to have features in them. That's 5 years out of 20 years of gaming.
They will be already talking about Nintendo.
They're planning to unviel thier final specs and all that shit before E3 at the press conference.
But Sony always does well at E3. Remember last year, XBOX had the announcment of the 360 selling in November. The next thing you know, Sony pulls out the PS3 and that ****ing Killzone trailer. Or whatever video that was.
The killzone fake trailer, it was.
All companies will have a very strong E3 showing, I predict. Each has big things coming up that a lot of people are really excited for.
Of course, Sony and Nintendo have their new consoles, and new trademark games for said consoles. Microsoft has Halo 3 and and Too Human and Gears of War, along with a bunch of other exciting titles.
I think features are over rated anyways. It's all about the gaming, for me at least. I don't care about browsing the internet, downloading music, playing super crazy expensive new disc formats, I can do this shit on my computer. A console is for gaming, and that's one of the reasons why Nintendo is still so respected, they don't play ball with the idea that they need to focus energy/money on anything other than gaming.

The general feeling I get from this forum and people I talk too is that Nintendo doesnt exist anymore, or that they're stupid. (Recent thread about the announcment of the name)
I personally dont believe this and I totally respect the idea that Nintendo has.
My only problem is that Nintendo sometimes doesnt have a killer app that isnt an Nintendo franchise. RE4 was one, but they dont generally have alot.
That is why I went out and bought an 360 because I can get some of those games that Ill never get to play on an Nintendo product.
I just hope Nintendo doesnt **** up on this console because if it doesnt work out, I dont think Nintendo will be able to recover. But Nintendo does have a few good things going for them.

Yup... NINTENDO just wants attention to show their stuff at E3 06 in May thats all. Someone on here mentioned it already but here is one of Nintendos heads, its also pernounced as "We", I personally loved the name Revolution because this is Nintendos last chances to do something in the console wars and having the name "REVOLUTION" fits Nintendo right because they are always bringing new stuff.
