they are forced to go digital and the only way to display HD is digital put two and two together for yourself I shouldn't have to do it for you.

Looks like i'll be quoting meself One for when Blu-ray takes off launching Ps3 sales with it. and 2 when HD-tv are the majority which should be around 2008/2009

The most up to date artical was from 2006 and it said 30% of people have hdtv that only leaves 21 more to make majority, and since almost all tv's sold are HD thats not going to take long.

Standard digital. Standard digital does not require HD, it's merely the way the signal is sent. Digital signals are required for HD picture, not the other way around. Please think before you type.

Good. See ya in 08/09, then.

Give a source, please. My 24 million figure is from the Wall Street Journal, back in Februrary. So either you're lying or you forgot the date and HDTV sales shot up 375% in the past two weeks.

"DVD sales exploded after PS2 launched."

Total crap. And I remember that period just fine.

dirk, fact of the matter is, it is patently untrue that HD is going to be a requirement in the reasonable future. Digitial will be soon but not HD; that is at least a decade away and I cannot see it becoming mandatory even then.

As part of your argument revolved around this becoming mandatory, you're point is sunk.

Like GK said... Link Please.

DVD sales did not explore after PS2 lunch, it's preety much actually the other way around...

One thing that I must mention is that Blue-Ray is doing a better job at selling their first year then the DVD player. People thought the same about DVD's like you feel right now about Blue-Ray or HDVD. They were all talking crap about buying a DVD player, and that the disc can be easily scratched, and so on.

And look what happened?

This is true. But, like I said earlier, DVDs had several distinct advantages over tapes. Blu-Ray has Pore-O-Vision.

Okay, that was mean of me, but you get the idea.

Actually, I think you just said something in favor of Blue Ray.

If the difference between VCR and DVD was greater, yet people thought shit of it the same way as they do as they think of Blue Ray and DVD right now, doesn't that mean that the advantage has to be about the same, or something?

This is kind of unrelated but....

Laser Tvs

With this new technology HD tvs are going to get alot cheaper in the next few years.

...You know, most of the time beaming lasers into one's eye is considered bad.

That said, I'd like to know how the darn thing works.

and jaden101 sony doesn't own Blu-ray. The Blu-ray group is who owns blu-ray.

the blue ray disc association are currently jointly developing the technology but it was sony who first invented it and patented it thus they'll get the lions share

Blu-ray Disc was first developed by Sony Corporation in 2002 as a next generation data and video storage format alternative to DVD.

not to mention that 7 out of the 8 main hollywood studies support the format and 5 of those say they will use the blu-ray format exclusively...those being Disney, Fox, Sony, Lionsgate and MGM

Jaden's pretty much right about Blu-Ray ownership. Sony invented the tech, and it's currently "owned" by the Blu-Ray Disc Association, a group of the electronics companies Matsushita, Pioneer, Phillips, Thomson, LG Electronics, Hitachi, Sharp, Samsung and Sony.

youve probably heard this already, but who knows
http://www.digg.com/gaming_news/Wii_DEMO_download_service_announced_DE

Wii owners with Internet connection will be able to download demo versions of Wii games. The rumor existed for a long time but now it's official. Demos to be stored on Internal 512MB memory or external memory (SD card or USB hard drive). Nintendo will reveal soon which will be the first demos.

Nintendo is going to do what XBOX360 is doing and that is place a proper friends list instead of numbers, rankings, achievements, and a bit more.

That's what everyone hopes, at least. There's a huge outcry against friend codes since they're a clunky way of doing things, and hopefully Nintendo will listen.

Problem is, few companies are known for being more stubborn, especially in the online gaming area.

In my opinion the sales of HD-TVs are doing quite well. You listed that 8% of Americas population already owned said TVs. You must also calculate into that how many already own TVs and also how many are at the age that they can get a new TV. (There is some meaning there hmmm somewhere) I can't imagine the older generation buying new TVs just for the sake of it.

Plus with people buying new TVs my best guess would be that they'd want something better and a sales rep would be very quick to point out HD-TVs.

Though thats besides the point. This is a Next-Gen discussion forum after all.

I say PS3 will do quite well in the long run. This is probably the best time to be a gamer since all 3 companies have really pulled all the stops to bring out 3 amazing consoles. Each with their own broad range.

By Nintendo, in response to NPD's sales numbers for February.

According to independent sales data released by the NPD Group, the Wii(TM) from Nintendo was America's best-selling video game console in the U.S. again in February, with consumers snapping up virtually every system available in America totaling more than 335,000 units. Only one game system sold more in February, the portable Nintendo DS(TM), with sell-through of 485,000 units. Together, Nintendo systems represented 54 percent of all hardware sales in February, more than those of all other manufacturers combined.

"We're gratified that the explosive appeal of Wii, in terms of both new players and new ways to play, has created unprecedented demand, substantially beyond supply," says Reggie Fils-Aime, president, Nintendo of America. "But we also understand that there are hundreds of thousands of consumers still waiting to get their hands on the system so we continue to both ship more units to retail every week and work non-stop to build capacity."

Reports from households across the country indicate that Wii has become the centerpiece for weekend parties, a new method for improving athletic technique and losing weight, and a landmark product for generating cross-generational fun.

The strength of Wii and Nintendo DS was also apparent in monthly software sales where three of the top four best-selling games for the month (Wii Play(TM) and The Legend of Zelda(R): Twilight Princess for Wii, and Diddy Kong(R) Racing DS for Nintendo DS) play exclusively on Nintendo systems. In addition, so far this year 10 of the top 20 best-selling games are exclusive for Nintendo hardware.

And if they get thier act together, they could probalby sell twice that amount of Wii's.
