Last-Gen Console Discussions (PS3, Xbox 360, Wii)

Nintendo has said they realize they cannot meet the demand mainly because they didnt expect the Wii to sell like it is selling. They are looking for ways to improve this and chances are they will open a new assembly factory to do so. I guess the one in China is working past 100% operations.

i was suprised that a lot of people didnt preorder..
i supose you all have your reasons though..
mine was that most people here are either waiting for 360s or ps3 and saying "wii? wii is what you do in the toilet, not what you play games on"
no respect for other countires 🙁

I didnt preorder because well, the lack of money. It was near Christmas and I was expecting money for it from Christmas.

Yeah, I know the demand is high.

But, EB's in Ottawa havnt gotten an single Wii in three weeks. 3 WEEKS!!!!

dead set??
over here we still got about 2-3 wiis
but were in the outback, so that might explain it..
what ive been waiting for all this time was the internet adaptor thing
only came in last week 😠

how come nintendo was able to make wii so cheap, and 360 cost a few hundred $ more, and then again ps3 costs a few hundred more then the 360, and ps3 cost over double the wiis price

because nintendo knows that the wii would sell better if it were a lower price..
plus it wanted to counter ps3s bigarse $1000

In fact the Wii is more expensive than its creator wanted. The Wii is very efficiently made and with materials and tech that has become low priced. The exception is its flash memory, which apparently kept the cost up above what was originally envisioned ($100).

A lot of people who might have preordered didn't because not all stores even do preorders (I know places like Walmart, Target, and Best Buy don't, usually only game stores do preorders), and the stores that did do preorders for it were only allowed so many, in case not as many were shipped as would have been expected (like with the PS3s) at launch.

Unless Nintendo starts shipping wii's by truck loads sometime in the next couple months, yeah I don't know.

If things stay the way they are, and I read some thing around Jan 2008 saying "Wii top selling console of 2007" I'll know thats a big fat lie. And you people do to.

Personally I've seen more Ps3's come in the warehouse and out the front door since launch than the wii. I know 8 people who own a ps3, and 3 who own a wii

The PS3 sucks IMO, Sony always bragged about its outstanding graphical capabilities and blue ray disk, yet the graphics have not exceeded Gears of War as of now and to me theres nothing special about blue ray! The 360 has been coming out with so many great games (Oblivion, GRAW, GoW, Mass Effect) and even though some are coming out later on the PS3, its not worth it for an extra $200. The wii is an interesting console... the controller definetely makes it unique and offers a new style of gameplay but graphics are more important IMO. Of course its cheap price will lure parents into buying it over the other systems, so all in all I'm going to place bets that the 360 wins the console wars with a close second by the Wii. Sony can suck it.

And I know a friend of mien who works in a game store and says that they've had the same 5 PS3's in stock for the last three weeks, but every new shippment of Wii's si gone in a few hours...

That's like at my store, except any Wiis we get are usually gone in less than an hour - it's not unusual to sell 5 in as many minutes. Which is generally an entire shipment.

Atleast they get shipments.

Currently, the graphics on the PS3 are roughly the same as Gears Of War, but after seeing the new Ratchet and Clank game, I dont know, those are pretty sweet graphics.

Not worth $200 more, but still pretty damn good.

Seems Nintendo's doing a better job than Microsoft did at their launch, if you ask me. I mean during the 360's first three babystep months it sold like what 1-3 million and like Nintendo, they couldn't meet the demand (but I'm pretty sure Microsoft had rougher time). But I don't remember much Microsoft flaming for that (or maybe I missed it, I dunno).

Maybe we're expecting a bit too much from Nintendo?

And I think Nintendo overall had the best launch.

EDIT: God, I sound biased.

They did have the best launch.

I remember around this time I could easily get an XBOX 360, and I got my last April and I all I had to do was call up the EB store in Kitchener (near Toronto) and they had a ton of them.

By this rate, I dont see myself getting an Wii, even if I called the store everyday by atleast May. A week without shipments is alright, two weeks, its bad, but if Nintendo cant get a shipment out in 3 weeks straight for a city thats nearing an million and over 1.1 million including a city in Quebec and is the capital of the country, something's wrong.

It's not like the stores have the Wii's and the shipments are being sold out everyday, or every week, the problem is that they're not getting them at all, and if they do, its such a meager supply.

Hey sams... I live in Toronto too and damn is it really hard to get a Wii. Yesterday I got a flyer saying Toys R Us is getting 20 Wiis per store and that they would sell them from March 17 - 23 while they last. I suggest you call some stores and ask when the next shipment is comming if you really want one. I will buy a Wii in the summer time because I want to wait for a bit of games to come out plus I have XBOX360 and I cant get enough of that at the moment.

They did? Ok.

Yeah well I live in Europe were there was a redilulous 360 shortage, a lot worse than the Wii shortage but as soon as I got there they were soldout, I had to wait more than a month for each new shipment, I think I had to wait a total of five or six months or so before I actually got a hold of one but it had and still has disc reading issues, hardly worth the extra wait (yeah, boo-frickin-hoo). I also remember that wherever you went you could see people wanting their money back 'cause their 360s were malfunctioning, then the clerks tell 'em to send their console to Microsoft for repairs, something that the customer had and still has to pay for.

Microsoft were far from ready for a world wide release. 😬

They werent, but they had to release the console way ahead of the PS3 (who at the time was up for the spring launch) to get ahead of them. It worked. They're was problems, and now they're fixed.

I dont hate Nintendo, and I'm still going to buy an system. I just dont think Nintendo should be doing this. If they're doing the whole, " create demand", then its going to backfire. The first two months is a good idea to do that but now, people are going all over the place to pick one up and sooner or later, people will just give up and not care anymore. I wouldnt be surpraised if alot of people would of bought an system on impulse. It could totally backfire.

If thats not the case, then Nintendo are idiots because they were ready for the launch well ahead of time. I think I remember an article saying that they were producing Wii's since like June, or even before that. So they're should be supply. Atleast enough supply to have atleast 1 shipment a week.
