GameStop prepping for a Microsoft announcement on August 8th?
Posted Aug 2nd 2007 11:55AM by Paul Miller
Filed under: GamingWe're not sure what it's going to take for Microsoft to admit to itself that the cat's out of the bag on this one, but that Xbox 360 price drop "rumor" just got a bit more ammo in the form of a leaked GameStop memo sent out on Tuesday. Apparently the stores are supposed to get some Microsoft signage on August 8th, and if for some reason they get it before that they're not supposed to put it up until the 8th because it's super pinky swear top secret. A trustworthy source has further confirmed with us that a 360 price drop is in the cards, and that prices will match up with that Circuit City catalog from the other day: $450 for the Elite, $350 for the Premium and $280 for the Core. In even better news, we've also gotten further confirmation that the Premium will be adding HDMI out sometime soon, which we wouldn't mind in the slightest.
WOWZERS!!! 360 Price cut. 313

So Lana, can you confirm anything about that for us? 😄
Can I confirm? No, because I didn't hear anything about that (and I don't generally read the store emails myself unless someone else wants to show me something particularly interesting/stupid).
However I am working on the 8th so I shall definitely be able to confirm/deny then...might be able to find out something before that though.
Price Drop for the Xbox 360 is Officially Confirmed!
*runs to gamestop and trades for an Elite*
Man, people are so damn whiny. I was just looking at my livejournal communities and in one of them it was posted about the price drop.
There's a bunch of people going "that can't be real, I'll wait for the real one" "Only $50? It should have been $100 across the board!" "Why didn't they drop the prices equally?" and the best "They won't be able to compete against Sony with that price" whine b!tch moan.
Um, yes it is real; the system costs a lot to make and thus is priced accordingly; my guess as to the unequal drops is that the Elite was only $80 more than the Premium to begin with, and simply buying the Core is really a ripoff (you don't actually save any money with it. Trust me); and they've been competing perfectly fine against Sony as it is, and considering Sony's so-called price drop is nothing but a clearance sale that won't last very long the PS3 is still much more expensive.
Personally? This price drop combined with the fact that there's finally some 360 games coming out that I want, means that I rather want to get one.
Much larger harddrive...I'd say worth the money if you think you'll need that extra space.
It's big point other than that is the HDMI cables, as that's the only way you can get them for the 360.
But if you don't care either of those, then I'd say just go with the Premium and spend the extra money on a couple of games.

No the new premiums have HDMI ports.Thats why I'm holding off buying one until it becomes standard.

Don't worry, I still don't have one either. I got all pissed the other day when I was at work and walked into the back room and we actually had some because I didn't have enough money that I could actually spend.
I saw a really retarded anti-Wii argument the other day;
"Nintendo need to be more original! They're forgetting about the hardcore gamers and aren't catering to us enough.".
Yes, they need to be more original, the market is flooded with ideas like the wiimote.
As for "hardcore gamers", the kind of people who jerk off over tech specs and just happen to play games, don't deserve to be catered to. Nintendo have the right idea by making games everyone can play, as well as stuff like REs etc.

Haha, that argument's been brought up in this very forum.
It's like...number one, Nintendo's always been consistenly original with their ideas.
Number two, you should never cater to the hardcore members of a group because they make up a tiny minority (don't let the internet fool you on that fact). What you should do is try and cater to everyone.
Catering to CASUAL GAMERS is not c
