It really is a problem for Microsoft though. Even when they have exclusives they don't seem to quite create the same sort of established franchise that Sony and Nintendo really build on.KOTOR was used as an example- well, that only got two games, with only hazzy rumours of a third, and even then it's never really entered the public consciousness as being an Xbox franchise, just something shared with the PC. Now, it did begin development as a PC game, which didn't help. But then so did Halo and that is one franchise that the Xbox really HAS achieved well. I suppose KOTOR being the direct spiritual successor of Baldur's Gate, an absolutely PC franchise, probably took some of the claim away. It felt more native on PC.
A lot of these others... I am sure they are good games but still not really hitting the button of a big franchise in the way things like Final Fantasy, MGS, Mario and Metroid are. Only Halo can really say it stands among that crowd.
Nice but you see MGS, FF, Mario and Metroid have been franchises that have been alive since the NES. It's really a flawed argument to compare them to Halo or any franchise that started in the xbox. Newsflash the Xbox is the newest kid on the block, and they are doing a great job of establishing new games with the potential to become franchises.
It's basically saying I own because I am 23 and I can beat the crap out of toddlers.
Sony was the new kid on the block with the PS and it still hammered the market that way. Much better than Microsoft have done in a longer time frame. Meanwhile Nintendo has started some new ones within the last two years- the Brain Training franchise, and now the 'Wii' brand with Sports, Play and soon to come Fit being enormous franchise sellers.
It can be done. MS simply haven't managed it.
Besides, whatever the cause the effect is the same and in stating the factual nature of the problem I was raising a pertinent issue.

Sorry, but those are really weak examples. The wii sports was free, the wii play came with a controller...it hardly had anything to with them being "great games" just great perks....im pretty sure if microsoft made a game and attached a free three month live card to it, that it would be a great selling game too.
Just give microsoft some time, they've shown that their an "own worthy system". Just give them some time to build its game arsenal up. Rome wasnt built in a day ya know.

Maybe. Not everyone cares about online play. The main reason I've not been interested in getting a 360 until lately is the lack of games that are not shooters or sports, and the fact that there's such an emphasis on multiplayer/online play.
And MS has had enough time where it could have gotten some franchises built up (actual ones with multiple games, stuff like Gears of War don't count). The problem though, is that almost every single game for the original Xbox that came out was multi-platform. It had next to no exclusives. Thus it's hard to say any of them really are Xbox games, even though there ARE plenty of franchise games in there.
Though with Rare supposedly making a third Banjo-Kazooie game on the 360...that'll probably help with that a lot, as it's a pre-existing series a lot of people liked a lot.

I heard Rare left Microsoft after Perfect Dark Zero's piss poor reviews, and it only selling for the name itself. I also heard that Nintendo is negotiating with Rare to put Goldeneye, and Perfect Dark on Wii's Virtual Console.

Why did Sony get the exclusives in the first place? Because Capcom, Square and others disliked the cartridge format. That's it. Had Nintendo followed in Sony's footsteps the PSX would have been dead from the very beginning. But with that said I can see your point, and it's reasonable.

Some of the major Super Mario games were free, doesn't stop people counting the,. It drives sales and raises consciousness. Stop applying a double standard- my examples hold well.
Microsoft have already HAD time. Fact of the matter is they have a poor record on these things and it is harming them- simply a fac,t no point getting at the messenger.
And Superboy, whilst you acknowledgement is appreciated, your point comes down to Nintendo being in a weak position for franchises to be stolen. But Sony has been in that position now too. MS have not really been able to capitalise on it.

It has done well enough IMO. Frankly I never thought Resident Evil, Demil May Cry & GTAIV would come out for the 360.
Those three got announced when the Ps3 was selling like horseshit, and a month ago before the price drop Kojima was unsure about making MGS4 exclusive to the Ps3 as well.

Well it's been selling more, 'double' of what it was.
But it isn't like they'll beat Nintendo, Wii is already up to 9 million, and Sony keeps calling the Wii a fad while it's selling over double the Ps3 is. Sony's profits are dependent off the games, and Ps2 sales, not PSP or Ps3.
